There is a pony on my yard who I have just found out is in dire straits, he's had an absess on his face for a while and the insurance wont pay out for his 2k op he needs, so I think its going to mean PTS for the pony.

Im not sure of the details but suffice to say Mum and kids are devastated, and I know this happens day in and day out, but can't help wanting to help little Peanut.

Thoughts anyone, I cant help thinking if 200 of us gave a tenner...? Or am I living in cloud cukoo land and you can't save them all???

Vet says likely a kick, kick has knocked tooth or root which needs to be drilled and knocked out now and ins wont pay so leaving the owner with the last chance saloon of vet coming tomorow and trying something else he's thought of, or if that doesnt work PTS x

Wonder why the insurance won't pay out?

Most vet practices will allow you to arrange a payment plan with them. I'd encourage the owner to chat with the vets about this.

Good luck to them. Not a nice position to be in.

I knew of a very expensive show pony that passed a 5 stage vetting then shortly after was found to have an abscess due to a tooth. It had an operation and lots more treatment. it cost £1000s and ended up being PTS.

Every case is different but unfortunately even an operation wont always save the pony. You could always get a second opinion before making the final decision to pts

Why wouldn't insurance pay out? If due to an accident (vet just needs to state this) then the insurance should surely pay out?

If not, if I was the owner I'd be getting my credit card out and taking it further with the insurers after!!!

bless him poor wee soul and poor owners why wont insurance pay out? do you know?, i'd give you as much as i can to help towards it, let me know x

I dont know the ins and outs but i would have thought knowing this lady and her family, its definitely not a case of anything untoward going on. Maybe she could just do with getting a second opinion although, this is very good vet x

If it's a kick and therefore an accidental injury then, if they have vets fees cover the insurance should pay no questions asked. They should really contact the insurance again.

do you know why the insurance company have refused to py out ? im an insurance broker and some companies attempt a refusal and then when pushed usually cough up . Tell them to try again and ask for a written explanation as to why this is not covered by insurance and then say this will be put to the insurance ombudsman. It might work !!!
