hello to everyone else who is helping at equestrian events this weekend. Hope your input is appreciated and you don't get too wet! I am thinking of starting a 'permanently attached to a clipboard' clique if anyone fancies joining.

Hi, LeneHorse,

I shall be stewarding at the Ridgeway Show tomorrow, (Sun), and it's nearly all Qualifiers so we should get some good entries. I've always told Show Organisers that I can't (will not) steward Working hunter classes as my concentration isn't as good as it used to be, but looks like I'm doing the first two (little) classes in the morning as she is short of stewards.

It's so difficult getting hold of good stewards for shows these days. I do enjoy doing it but it's very tiring on the ol' feet!!! The responsibility is also a strain sometimes, trying to keep everyone happy at the same time!

I've heard the weather forecast is fine for tomorrow; I do hope the wind drops, as the Ridgeway showground is virtually on top of the Berkshire Downs.

So, yes, I would like to become a member of your new
'permanently attached to a clipboard clique'. We could send in our amusing stories of the previous weekend's stewarding!!!
We could also add our pet hates. One of mine is:-

Rosettes, the wrong way round, inside rustly cellophane bags on a windy day!

What's your pet hate whilst stewarding?

I used to organise a horse show every year, but have taken a couple of years off it as I was getting a bit burnt out..however tomorrow I will be at the start of the BHS funride at Crown Farm seeing off the riders, so come and say hello, anybody who is going

Well, my ring (Ridgeway Show) finished at 3.40, which was pretty good going as we had quite a few entries. It was nice to sit and chill-out whilst watching the other rings. My feet were killing me so I kicked my shoes off - heaven!!!!

The afternoon classes were for Miniatures only and there were absolute loads, in all sorts of pretty colours, and shapes, I might add!! I must admit that although I have never really had a lot of time for these creatures, their handlers were so pleasant and polite to both my Judge and myself - the 'other brigade' could learn a thing or two from them, when it comes to manners.

The whole day went very smoothly and no comical stories to report this time, I'm afraid!!! The weather was great, hospitality excellent and nice bottle of wine an added bonus.

Any stories from out there, this weekend?

Hi, LeneHorse,
Sorry to see that your idea for a new thread didn't materialise. Perhaps all those helpers/stewards out there are so exhausted they just collapse in a heap when they get in!!! I know I often feel like that when I've had a hard day in the ring. I usually sink into a comfy chair with a cup of tea, a fag, and my feet soaking in a bowl of Radox!!!

Perhaps you could entitle the thread differently - that might draw them to the bait!!!
