I was just wondering if your on a yard where you will help each other out......being on a small yard we do,even if I do not get on with certain owners I would step in and help them, and being the first down I feed every one's horse irrelevant to if I get on with them.....just know on some yards that this is not the case, and some people prefer to be left alone!

i always try to help everyone, think owning a horse is such a wonderful privilege i try to be as smiley as i can and always help!!! (sorry i do live in fluffy land) however yes i do swap with a couple of others at w/e's to do bring ins turnouts etc so we get lie ins. havent really been taken advantage of yet! always try and thank those early feeders too!

Yeh I do. There are only two of us though! Last night I re-poulticed my friends mare because she was late coming round to do her and also skipped her out and put her bed down for her. Im good friend

Yeah always try to! tho on the move so will have to see where i can help.
there is a women at our yard that is up early every day but she currently refuses to feed as otherwises "its always her"
Wrong as she feeds her horse only and lets all the others kick off!

its nice 2 help each other out. its only me and my friend on our little yard and we always help each other .we do everything together even empty the poo trailer lol

Me and two friends do turnouts at the weekends so we get a lie in. Other people have always been helpful when needed and i hope so am I. I'm on diy and I do pay YO to bring in during the week and if i'm on hols i pay them to look after him. As its a large yard other diyers get together in small groups and come to arrangements between themselves over jobs. As i have to leave the yard by 8 to get to work i only do mine during the week

I always try to help people out. The yard I am usually on (horse on grass rest at the mo) operates a pairing system, where each livery pairs up with another (decided by whose horses go best together) and they help eachother out with everything. So not everyone has to be up at the yard every day, we give eachother days/ mornings/ evenings off, share skipping the field, and cover eachothers' illnesses and holidays. I will also help out with anyone else's horses wherever I can, for example YO has her two horses together so has no pair. She's usually at home anyway (she teaches for a living) but if she can't get her horses in/ put them to bed etc. one day then someone will step in to help. It actually works really well, and at one time we had such a good set of people that one or two people would bring in all the horses in the afternoon, on rotation. These days it's more of a "well I'm not helping you because I'm not paired with you!" attitude in the yard, which is a shame, but then you can't have a yard and people sharing things without the politics!

Yep we do,for example we send facebook messages/emails detailing if how there horse is if horse is on box rest and they can't make it. Biggest example is because pickle is off work someone (a friend and her dad) lent me their pony for the whole of half term!

Yes my friend works around me as i work mornings one week and afternoons the next so we swap every week, i have 2 horses and she has one, when im on mornings i leave everything ready for mine and do hers too i even make all the teas and breakfasts so she only has to bring in. I have on the other hand been paired with someone who really took the pi** . I dont mind helping anyone if asked.

our yard is a little DIY
so we all help each other bring in, advice, feed them, ride etc.
and everyone helps each other. And we all work as team which is nice
my best friend is having problems at home and can't always get down so i'm currently exercising her pony and feeding her as well as mine but she'll cover looking after mine when i'm on holiday
its lovely

I will always try to feed my friends two horses when I get to the yard....... It saves her having to wait so long for them to finish eating before she can turn them out, which I suppose is good if you are rushing to get to work...

In return I know that if ever I was stuck (which I rarely am) she would feed merlin in the field for me.

Previously her and her hubs used to bring merlin in for me every night, so I owe her for lots of favours

I am on a small yard and we all help each other out - we text each other or leave messages on a white board for each other. To the extent that if somebody is going off to an event or show, somebody else will go with them to keep them company or help with entries/loading/etc if possible.

Most of us help each other out wherever/whenever we can. Although we are a big yard we all seem to get on pretty well. The 'rule' has always been that the first person on the yard feeds all the horses - pain in winter sometimes but thats how its always been.

Ive even been out to 'rescue' a friend on the motorway when they had a problem with their trailer at the drop of a hat on a sunday afternoon. Its what friends are for and I think of most of the other liveries as my friends as well.

What a nice thread! So good to hear about amicable relationships at livery yards for a change!!

My boy is on full livery, and I can't even get there to see him more than once a week, at best (health problems) so I can't be of much practical help to anyone.

But the YO and staff there are wonderful - always cheerful and friendly and helpful, nothing is ever too much trouble - so every time I visit I bring a big box of doughnuts or cookies or chocolates or something for them. It's not much, I know, but at least they know I appreciate all their hard work!

My friend and I look after each others horses but I would help anyone else out if they needed it. I'm very lucky as a couple of times when I've been very unwell I've gone to the yard to get my boy in and found my stable done etc. Got a good bunch where I am
