So, I got my new dog on Thursday. Her name is Rua, she's an 18 month yellow lab. I already own a 4 year old lab x Rottie bitch. Jess is spayed, Rua is not but will be getting done soon. They met prior to Rua coming home and got on really well.

Rua is settling in well and learning new commands, as she has had no training.

My issue is fighting! They play very rough, I would say dominance led fighting but inevitably it gets too rough and if I don't stop it once I see it getting too rough it can become a proper fight, with neither dog backing down. Stopping these fights is no fun so I use something to block them from each other. The first few times they fought they avoided each other and Jess looked thoroughly pissed off but now they seem to come round to each other quicker. Toys are not allowed yet and the are fed in separate rooms. (Had a fight caused by a toy in the first few days, so they're just kept out of the way)

The dogs are kept separate when I'm out which obviously defeats the purpose of getting a dog for company!

I know it is very early days and I'm willing to do what I can.

I was considering a dap diffuser for the house, has anyone had success with them?

They both get walked together (one either side) and I try not to favour one over the other.

They do settle and lie in the beds when I'm sitting watching TV and they do both sleep in the same room as me either in their beds or on the floor. Neither are allowed on my bed.

I think you're doing the right things by walking them side by side, and having them together while you are supervising. Also a good idea to feed separately etc. A stair gate would probably be a good idea so that they can see each other but not fight when you go out. Keep them very well exercised, I assume you don't let the younger one off lead? If the older one does go off lead you could take them out with the younger one on a long training line. I find this quite good for helping them relax and let off steam together as they can have a little chase in open spaces and play with you etc, and you've got hold of one at least!

Thank you :-) they're getting on much better now and play together lots! Had a fight on Friday there, but Rua has come into season so she isn't at herself.
