my mare is a 16.1 grey tb, With a little too much fat

but she had a sarcloid removed a few years back, her previous owner had this done, i have only owned her a year. Only the scab has fallen off and there has been alot of blood!! we put some dressing on it and i called my vet, only they just said to keep it clean, Its in an awkward place on her neck, right near the bottom. When riding her martingale rubs, Only i dont have the option to take this off her, Vet recommended i pad the martingale out only this didnt work and still caught it again. sorry this is abit long! plleeeaaseee help

Would a breastplate with martingale attachment get in the way??

Is it an option to not ride her till the wound has healed?
You could still lunge her and long rein her though.

Put a plaster (horse type) over the wound whilst riding - and take it off when not. Might help.

You want one of the racing breastplate's that some people use for eventing, the type where there is a strap of wide elastic goes round the front of the chest from girth to girth like this:

Would that still get in the way? I know the can put matingale's on them as well.

Consider trying a harbridge training aid for a while????
Nylon ones (saw some on ebay) aren't too expensive and might do the job temporarily?

I'm having trouble understanding why if the sarcoid was removed a few years ago then there was still a scab? Unless I'm just having a dim moment - it is Friday after all! It's just that when I had the sarcoid removed from my mare there wasn't a scab or dry skin or anything just a patch a different colour from the rest?

Anyway that's not helping is it - if you really need your martingale for riding I'd get some steri tape and cotton wool and just put a loose temporary dressing on while you ride.
