We have just bought my daughter (13 ) a new pony!! He is really controlled in trot and when she is relaxed is so in canter but for some reason she has got a mental block on cantering him!!!! He has taken off a few times but is always well behaved - he could put in a buck or a quick turn but doesnt. I know it is only due to mixed messages from her but we just dont seem to be able to get her to relax!!! And so he just goes quicker and quicker!!!! She hasnt come off so is more than capable of handling him but now she just refuses to canter!!!

You could try getting her an instructor to ride the horse for her and show her how it's done, that way they can also stay with her and watch as she rides.
Or, if you ride yourself, you could help her with it. Kids always learn better if they see someone else do it and succeed, and they also do well with someone telling them what to do most of the time, most of them do anyway. ;D

Sounds like she just needs to take a step back, a deep breath and watch someone else do good and have a good time. Then she'll want a go for sure!
