I visited a friend this morning, who has an elderly dashound, she showed me a soft swelling on the top of its paw, it looked like a blood blister so she allowed me to pop it, fresh blood came out with clotted blood as well, after an hour it was still bleeding baddley, it eventually stopped and filled up with blood again, ive had 2 experiances with hematomas on my dogs ears, i just left them alone and they hardened up with no problems, so will this dogs just harden up as well, or do you think it will need draining at the vets, or any other ideas what it could be.

I agree with CaveCanem I would take dog to the vet. Especially as it's an elderly one, it's best to get it checked out in case it's a cyst, fatty lump or something else. I've seen some nasty haematomas so I would definitely get it checked out.
