I am trying to find as many manufacturers of Hemp bedding that I can in the UK, in the hope of getting a decent deal to supply my yard, anybody with any experience of this as bedding material and who manufacturers it!!
I used to use Equisorb, which I found absolutely great, my horse loved it and I found it made a really good bed. Unfortunately they have gone out of business now...... I've been using Hemcore or Auboise since and I have to say that they just aren't as good. With the weather the way it is now the bed seems to be staying damp and it's not nice to muck out. Plus the Equisorb was softer which my horse preferred. I'm now going to put him on rubber with woodchips as I really can't stand it. My yard gets it from Essex Animal Feeds.
I use Equizorb as well. They were supposed to have gone out of business, but I think they have been bought out. My supplier just managed to get a huge delivery of the stuff. Its the best bedding I've ever used, much better than Auboise.
Really?? You're lucky, my yard said they just can't get any, which is such a pain as I'm now forking out a fortune for matting. If I put that down and then they tell me they can get it again i'm going to scream!!!
I looked at all sorts of bedding recently for Tilly - cob mare who can pee for England! My lot are on Excel which is shavings and dust extracted straw on top of rubber matting. It is just not absorbent enough for Tilly. Tried Easibed, but it is just so heavy and not really much more absorbent than shavings. Looked at Aubiose and Hemcore - but my feed merchants said that they had had a few customers complaining how dusty Hemcore was. In the end went for Megazorb (tried it before for our huge heavy horse and he just ground it up) and for Tilly it is great - really absorbent and costs £4.45 per bag. Used 10 bags to start with and reckon on topping up with 1 a week.
Gd point - Hemcore is way dustier than the others..... If I had to stay on it I'd keep trying to get hold of the Auboise. However the grooms are managing to get through 3 every week even though he is on a proper deep litter bed (IMO the only way to make this bedding work).. so I'm going to opt for the rubber at least for the winter while he's in 24/7...
