One of Mr P’s hens came out limping this morning when he opened the door. They are free range but he caught her earlier and had a look, said her foot was cut and swollen.
I’ve just had a look and tried to clean it up under a tap then dunked into a cup with mild antiseptic solution. I’ve covered it in manuka honey, realised how rubbish my first aid stick is these days.
I’ve cleaned out a spare coop and put fresh bedding in for her to go into to keep
If cleaner and restrict her movement a little.
Is there anything else we can do?
I think we have some blue antibiotics left if I can find it, worth giving some?

I had a Guinea Fowl that had been knocked by a car; she'd looked pretty bad. Had some anti-bac spray (vet had let me have it for horse's feet - you used to be able to pick it up from farm outlets). So I sprayed her with that. Thought she'd either die or recover, one of the two.

She recovered.

So yep if you can find your anti-bac then have a spray with that. It might just sort the situation. Good luck!

I have used purple spray on chicken wounds before with good success. If the wound is on base of foot and not healing then you could also bandage it to keep it clean, using strips of vetwrap between her toes, but in that case it’s essential to make sure it doesn’t restrict circulation.

I’d also just make sure she is eating and drinking well, perhaps a few extra tasty snacks to keep her strength up whilst she heals. Hope she recovers quickly.

Off topic but my lavender porcelain Wyandotte boy is hopping lame. I cannot see anything wrong with it at all, other than non weight bearing. He’s furious at being on box rest.

Can update with Miss chicken is back on form! We argued so much over this hen!
She was utterly miserable for a while and I spent time googling pain killers for hens with no joy.
Mr P swore blind she was fine and sure enough she’s back pecking round with her friends.
The one toe sticks out at a weird angle but the swelling is gone and she walks and scratches like the best of them.
