but it had already gone buy the time we went back to it but me and my mum did say that we were not going to go buying horses we were just seeing what it was like

my mum also fell in love with a friesian colt which only fetched £800 in the ring but he wanted £2000 so it wasn't sold. The same bloke had a friesian mare for sale as well but it had a VERY badly deformed nose!!! and didnt sell either he said it was kicked when it was a foal

all in all it was a good day out but there are always some horrid people about as we were leavi9ng we saw three men trying to kick a shetland they had just bought through the jokey door of there trailer after 10minutes they gave up and lowered the ramp

So yeah a bit pointless but i am definately going next month and will take friend with horsebox just incase

just wondering about other peoples experiences with auctions tbh

i thought Henley had finished for good?!?!? I refuse to go now, as i end up wanting to buy all the poor, skinny ponies.... and now i've actually got enough room for more horses, i'd be lethal!!

i could have taken them all home if i had the chance it was harder keeping an eye on my novicey mum! she was scared of horses before we got mine and now shes off asking information on everything that catches her eye

why was it sposed to be closing down?

i can't say that i saw any really poor looking horses tbh other than the deformed friesian some people were lovely and had a good chat to us others (mainly men im affraid to say) were ... well ... the opposite of lovely

It is supposed to be closing for house development.

You have to be very careful if you buy from any auction and you need to know your stuff. Have to say I remember reading a SJ report in H&H and the winning 148cm pony had come from there.

But please be careful!

Hi i went to henley today, hadnt been for ages as no longer live in area, saw that freisan mare felt really sorry for her as she seemed very genuine, not sure about owners though, who knows what really had gone on with that nose, the colt was lovely and i did take his number as was thinking of going down to his yard to look at it but not so sure he was a genuine dealer now, feel sorry for them all !! only went to get a few bits and bobs on tack auction! nothing seemed to be selling really today on horse front, all seemed over priced!

I used to love going to henley sales, my first ever experiance of auctions, my father used to give me about ten pounds to go into the tack auction, i used to love it, lol but that was about 35 years ago, also had a few ponies from there, I remember one little grey pony called cassidy we had from there about 14hh pigeon toed, but by golly could he jump, and fast, i had a season with him and won everything local.

Most of the horses being sold at Henley over the years are right at the bottom of the pile & very near the meat market. Occasionally there may be a reasonable one but many have problems, issues, ailments. The place has been subject of so many complaints & inquiries over the years by various animal welfare organisations.

As for the tack auction, it isn't a true auction. I have been there several times & the auctioneer takes bids off light fitings & door handles to try & boost prices and get a genuine buyer interested. Very often he'll have bid it up to a price, then stop & ask the audience 'surely it must be worth £? & then lower the price again.

Like many I thought that the place was sold off for development, it's a pity it hasn't been!

Blue came from Henley "Ride and drive missuss but whatever you do don't get on her back!"

I haven't been for about 18mnths (Well there's never anything there that could touch Malaga) and I too had been told it was closing last September!

He said he wouldnt let it go for less casue he had had it imported and paid £1750 and then paid to import it but he was a very nice looking lad(colt obviously lol) i noticed that alot werent getting sold

I bought a synthetic harness from the tack auction for £53 cause we were thinking about breaking izzy to harness other than that i wasnt too fussed about buying anything

There were about 6 of us and 2 kids everyone but me and my mum went quite a bit and knew some of the dealers and that so we were careful.
