Has anyone owned one? If so, are they worth buying?
I am looking for a cheap monoflap eventing saddle and have come across the Henri De Rivel Eventing Saddle (also known as the york saddle on the Shires Website).
Here is the link: http://www.shiresequestrian.co.uk/shop/product.php?productid=853&cat=582&page=2

I had one in the past and found it comfortable and reasonably made. The quality is not as good as some nor is the leather but certainly wouldn't rule it out found it quite good value.

oh, are they not the same??
haa i thought they were!!
the one that i *might* be buying is a Henri De Rivel one, but i can't tell the difference between them both
What are the sizings like? I would be getting the wide but don't really know whether it will fit, i hav a welsh x 14.2hh but he is carrying just a bit of weight shall we say

thank you

Well we had a Shires one on the yard for a while, and it was HORRID! Cheap horrid leather, pinched the horses shoulders and was bright orange

It looked like crap very quickly. However, have seem a couple that have been stamped HDR that have been lovely, and looked old but lovely leather....

What width size does he normally take? A saddler would be the nly one to tell you whether it fits..

Lets just hope that the saddle that i'm getting isn't a Shires in disguise

He had a medium GFS training but then he decided to balloon (or get more muscle as I prefer to say

I have recently been looking for a similar sort of thing and rode in a santa cruz monoflap event saddle and I have to say it was lovely!! Not sure how easy they are to get hold of but my saddler sells loads and so many people love them. Might be worth a try and not very expensive.
