Our insurance is up for renewal, and i havent looked at his value since i bought him as a 6 month old foal, he isnt for sale but wanted to know if i should alter the insurance.

So stats are: 3yr old gelding, palomino 15.2 ish but still growing. Clean limbs.

Gelderlander x Welsh sec D out of Sakama Tywysog and Akra Abbys Ciera, and Eidleman

Unbacked, but long lining and good manners will wear all tack quite happily and is bitted.

What do you think.

Depends what sort of premium you can afford and how you'd justify it with his breeding etc. What's he done (ie what would you think you'd have to pay for a replacement?) Personally at his age I would estimate around £2K to £3K as a starting point. Best advice would be to look at various ads selling horses of a similar have, height and breed.

Value is very much down to personal opinion but bear in mind, should the worst happen and you have to claim then you would need some justification he was worth his value. You can always increase the sum insured as he matures etc.
 
Lovely horse, full of prescence!
I would look through H and H for something similar for sale to value him, I'd guess around £2500 to £3000.
He's pretty unique with than breeding so if you don't think you could replace him value him higher to cover that.
 
Thats the problem, ive looked around and not seen anything like his breeding, with his presence lol.

i brought a gelderlander x at 3yrs old and paid - and insured him for £2.5k

i sold him - broken and going very well for £5k in december last year!
mine was bay with big white splashes under his belly and big white legs so very good looking and full of look at me factor!


the odd thing is - if you turned yours bay in your photos it could be my horse!
their stance and movement is so similar.
 
Wow that was a nice profit, how long did you have him for? And what sort of stuff was he doing when you sold him if you dont mind me asking..

i brought him in december 06 aged 2..

Broke him in january 07 as soon as he was 3 and then gave him all summer off ridden work - but took him to in hand shows for some experience.

brought him back into work in october and by early december he was popping coloured fences, fillers, hacking - only 3 -4 times a week but he was proving so easy.

A 15 yr old lads parents actually brought him in the November - but it was all a secret so i carried on with him and Josh got his new horse on christmas day!!
