I have a Haffie and she is strong on the ground if you have a lapse in focus but usually great under saddle - unless you have a lapse and then she will try the odd nap which needs strong direction. Having only owned her for nearly two months my sense is that she will do things when asked properly (she is making me a more precise rider) and like most ponies will take the mickey a bit if the opportunity presents itself. Mine has an aversion to the letter E in the school so no matter what the test directions we can often try a semi circle at E if not assertively ridden.
I ride my girl in a dutch gag as that is what she was used to for endurance work and it gives me options for brakes and snaffle ring for schooling. All my gang are on feedmark staight magnesium supp quarter of a 5 ml spoon every day for weight management and general chillaxing.
I second using rescue remedy for your daughter (horse can have it too - not sure of dose) and lots of instructor support as before as it sounds like he is just being true to type. Good luck I hope this is just a blip and she recovers her mojo on this chap he sounds a character.
