One week ago i put up a post about my pony Horrid Herbie who does not hack out. I was on the brink of thinking about giving up on him and was wondering how much more i could take.
Well what a diferance a week makes. He made me cry again today but this week they are tears of joy.

I got on him in the driveway and he backed up a bank twords a ditch so i got off him and led him back onto the road. I remounted (have no idea why) but he walked on and up the road. He hesitated afew times as the yearling who now lives in the watermeadow with Lucy was calling to him but he carried on with abit of incouragement from me. We walked up the road to the next village. Here for some reason he kept backing into peoples driveways and would not walk on. I just got off him and led him out to the road got back on and he walked on. He did this about 4 times going up the village. We turned up the lane that leads on to the downs and he had a big spook at the stream that goes under the road. He ran backwards then refused to move for a few mins. But then all of a sudden he walked on and we continued up the lane. Half way up the lane there is a field with two horses in. I thought this is where the fun would begin
But no Herbie walked on passed the horse
Yes he hesitated a few times but i didn't need to get off and lead him

The ride was going realy well till we where going down the bridleway off the downs. Two men where coming up with a dog. Herbie didn't see them before they hid behind a bush. He could hear them making lots of noise and was getting a bit worried so i desided to get off and lead him passed as i didn't want anything to happen. As i was half way off the dog suddenly lept out of the bush and went for Herbie. He leaped backwards and i fell flat on my bum
. Poor Herbie was so good he just stood there and waited for me to get back up i think he thought it was his fault. I remounted once the KILLER dog had gone and rode home the rest of the way as good as gold.
I'm so proud of him he has come so far and we are definatly bonding. After our ride i put him out and went to mend the fence in his field. He followed me round and was even giving me kisses (while no one was looking ofcourse
)
He is becomeing the nice little pony i knew he was. Not bad for a last chance pony.
Champain, Choc, Ice cream and jelly tots for everyone. I'm so so so happy today.
