I haven't posted for a while about Herbie because I haven't been able to ride him for ages due to the snow and then him losing a shoe. I had him shod on thursday and
being shod is not one of his many issues he was a saint, the farrior was very impressed considering all his other problems. So yesterday i lunged him for the first time since before xmas and he did a few leaps and we had a discussion as to weather he would lunge on the left rein but on the whole he was a good boy. Today i desided to hack him out with max (one of the kids i nanny for) and his pony. I took him to the front of the house and max got on yo yo then i tryed to get on Herbie but he was being naughty and kept moving so it took a while. I finaly got on but before i could get my bum in the saddle he did a big deer leap and managed to make me loose my balance so i had to jump off before he lept again (like he always does) I shouted a few choice words at him and told him if he didn't behave he would end up at the knackers yard as i was his last chance. I got back on and he thought about leaping again so i growled at him and told max to start riding up the road. Herbie followed reluctantly and we managed to go for a hack the only other time he thought about leaping was when he could see home across the field on the way back but again i just growled at him and kicked him on and he marched home.
When i got him in the yard he looked so shocked bless him i think he thought i would have given up after the first leap and not ridden him (i think thats what happened before). Anyway i'm so happy we managed to hack out and i know i will help Herbie be a nice pony. He's not going to beat me and i will not let him down.
