Here we go again....

Having been stupid enough to think i could ride a 80 course in two weeks at keysoe, we went schooling, saw the MASSIVE fences that you are jumping.

You my dear are a superstar you keep going and yes your 5th does count.
Wonder women you are and do not forget!

Bah! Thanks.

Fantastic report! Stay positive, 5th place is awsome!

Mmm, but I didn't get a very good score.

Fantastic report, you have really made my afternoon, well done on your placing.

Thanks.

You deserve a medal not a rosette for eventing with your parents and a breastfed baby = super mummy! Well done

Thanks!

Fully agree with this!
Loved the Chasm of Doom bit. But don't forget that if we didn't fall into the chasm of doom then we wouldn't feel so great on the days that we climb out and then achieve the Pinnacle of Progress (I'm not going to put perfection, as not sure anyone does reach it but the biggest buzz i have got from eventing has always been doing something I've been nervous of, regardless of the level).
Remember, next time will probably be completely different (well horse-wise anyway; not sure about the baby wee, leaking breastmilk, family etc !!!!)
Keep up the reports please

The Chasm Of Doom is real! And yes, it's definitely linked to the Pinnacle of Progress!

I'm sure every non professional rider goes through periods like this. I bet your next run will be much better. For someone who has a job and two children, especially one so young, to compete at intermediate is quite a feat. Focus on what you have achieved and 5th very definitely does count!!

I don't have a job right now - still on materna-holiday, so can't use that as an excuse!

I am not an eventing person, (I am one of the few bold enough to brave the cut throat world of showing) and don't really read eventing related posts. This is the first of your posts I have read and it is fabulous!! I think we may have stumbled on the next Jilly Cooper (minus the sex).
I am now off to stalk the rest of your posts as a little light bedtime reading.
Very, VERY well done and good luck for the future :)

Escape whilst you still can!

I'll say it again.......go girl!!!!!!

Humph!

A 5th in Eventing is a win in my book. Stop being so hard on yourself. Your playing alongside the pros and doing well. Bet they aren't as good as you at law.

As ever, I am in awe of how you manage to juggle career, family, horses AND still get a frilly. !! that deserves a huge "Well Done" in my book!!
look forward to the next wonderfully written report ;-)

Yes, I def related to the Chasm of Doom, next door to the Pit of Despair and overlooked by the Shadow of Paranoia. However, you have crawled, dragged and jiggled your way out and have a fine frilly to show for it. Hurrah you.

I wouldn't bet on it...

I'm not career-juggling at the moment, that all starts again when I go back next year!

Yes! I'm loving that other people have also visited the Chasm Of Doom, Pit Of Despair, etc. They exist!

Fantastic, you are still one of my hero's! ...... Ps, where does one buy the ticket out of the chasm of doom? - 2 events with my youngster this year so far (her first year eventing - or would be if we completed) and 2 big fat E's.... back to the xc schooling field for us......

Kelpie, I fear the ticket out of the Chasm of Doom has to be earnt rather than simply bought, I wish I could just buy mine! Instead, I'm taking horse from doing BE90's all season to a tiddly 2ft3 hunter trial this weekend. I'm hoping as HotToTrot says, I might be able to get an internal flight towards the exit!!

Good luck! :)

Hahah amazing story - this could be the start of a new line of novels a new Jilly Cooper in the making!

Ha! Though, as pointed out, I need to involve some sex!

Well, Kelpie and rising_promise, I think that there are several means of extricating oneself from The Chasm Of Doom... I've tried to accept that we all screw up - and it helps a bit to remember that even our very top riders screw up. And once you have screwed up, well, it's done, you can't change it, and dwelling on it breeds Negativity, which is a one-way path deeper into The Chasm Of Doom! So then I try to work out why it went wrong, try to put it right and try to build some good experiences. Good Experiences are little transfers towards the Departures Lounge from The Chasm Of Doom.

I don't normally manage to buy a ticket straight out, but if I can at least get some internal flights and maybe a train or two, then I know I'll emerge at some point... The Chasm Of Doom sucks, I'm afraid!

Love reading your reports. Huge well done. The thought of doing my first 80 is scarring the pants off me so don't know how you do it

Trotting over a pole is scaring the pants off me at the moment.......okay I lie everything is scaring the pants off me at the moment so blooming well done.

*wonders off in search of lost confidence and self esteem*

'tis true, tho I was hoping for a quick fix ;) ;) (she says tongue firmly in cheek)

Good luck for your hunter trials this weekend. My current plan this weekend is to manage a combined training with some semblance of dignity ;) in the hope of it shining a path out of the chasm.......

Ah yes, the Chasm of Doom... I'm there at the moment and I concur the demons are circling and the blackness is, indeed, impenetrable! My mare who started out so well has decided that her friends back in the warm up are so much more fun than running and jumping out on the course by herself, even though the running and jumping by herself has been a thoroughly worthwhile and exciting thing to do in the past, apparently it is now the scariest thing I've ever asked her to do and she can't understand why I'm trying to make her do it!

So, after a 2nd 'E' in a row yesterday, I am a fully fledged member of the self pity party and know that it's not the nicest party of which to be a member.

**waves at Kelpie and Rising_Promise** I'm the the E gang too with my pride and joy - all my fault too :( Is there space in your taxi out of the chasm?

HotToTrot you and Star really do give me something to aim for - real people who are very honest about that challenges they've faced and overcome, your reports are the best thing on HHO and I wish they'd give you a blog :)

So when are you going to write the book? I shall def buy a copy! Great read as always...

I agree, and if it's any consolation, I have just after two years with my horse started doing intermediates and have entered our first two star at the end of the month. He is also a fabulous horse, very much like yours sounds and my trainer warned me about entering the 'big boys club' as he calls it! That has really made me question our ability and a lot of things, and that is without children, so I applaud anyone with children who does this game with such a sense of humour! You are my new inspiration going forwards 😁

*Waves* suziq77 :) at least you can spend extra time buying some chips from here :)

.... And totally agree HTT should write a book. sort of Bridget Jones for eventers :)

Maybe it will take you through security and to the boarding gate?! Good luck!

A taxi out of The Chasm... Hold on, do Addison Lee go there and can we pre-book? Thanks! Certainly have plenty of challenges.

Good luck!! I keep trying to enter a two-star, but never quite feel ready.
