My mare had emergency surgery in September 2018, the vet found she had strangulating lipoma, and removed part of her intestine. Insurance completely maxed out! She made a full recovery, but now has a large hernia on the incision line. After lengthy discussions with vets, second opinions from separate practices, and my own research. I’ve been advised different things and I’m loosing sleep worrying over her. Has anyone else had the same issue after colic surgery and how have you managed? She is back to hacking which the vet said is fine and also said she is fine for low level dressage however we haven’t done much schooling since she has been back in work, due to the weather. So will have to see how that goes. But at the moment is living a normal happy life. I understand the risks that come with a hernia but wanted some advice off anyone that’s found themselves in the awful situation.
