Right - well I caused some confusion on my last post...
All fine in the end - I had some real issues beforehand and I do not think I ever want to sell another horse again. It was a really tough decision for me last year to even put my pony up for loan and I believed she would be on long term loan for years to come. When I got a call at the beg of July telling me the people had lost their land and she would be returning to me the following week I gasped...
I had gone to see her many times throughout the year and she had managed to over come alot of her problems and was looking really fit and happy so was pretty gutted when they said they would have to give her back.
My hubby had bought me a 5 yr old the year she went out on loan who I am bringing along slowly and I have a 30 yr old too. When she returned my old mare did nothing but kick her to bits and I could tell she had no idea who I or anyone was really. She had turned from a wild, silly and stroppy pony to a relaxed, chilled and patience pony who didnt know where she was or who I was. It was extremely upsetting and I found it very hard to think about putting her up forsale so I advertised her as being a loan with view to buy.
Several people came to see her and the one I chose was local, had a vet hubby and had much protenial. She wanted to buy her right away but I wanted a months trial to make sure she was ok and I liked them. Once I had viewed their field and stables and got references I pretty much got it organised so they could collect her the following weekend so she was not sat in a field on her own and not being ridden.
There was no mention of the holiday and to be honest I was pleased they would be loaning her and using her really...they also mentioned that if happy they would make me an offer early so the process was not being panned out. Im pretty stressed at the mo due to exams, work redundance and also someone drove into my car so having her sold 3 weeks earlier was lovely, especially as she seemed so happy and in with other horses playing.
The lady I sold her to was quite crafty and although offering a good home was totally up for a bargin and trying to push me down on price due to menlonomas. It caused alot of extra stress and her hubby made out she had problems in her mouth too. I spoke to my vets who believed that due to this any price offered would be great and if they are nice people offering her a good home to go with what they offer.....I didnt back down on the price, after having my vet check her and confirm there was actually nothing in her mouth but hard skin around her lips from eatting grass and in the end it worked out. At one point I was planning to just hire a lorry go over and collect her as the lady did kick up a fuss when cash was demanded. She said - in her words...well I dont know why you are worried about a cheque as I have her here in my field already...so we felt it was quite threatning and nasty. I got the cash in the end after a few hours of pushing and all was fine in the end. Drove past the field this morning and she looks happy eating the grass. I know they will look after her even if they were pretty hardcore with me...
thanks everyone for caring - nice to know I have some good and knowledgable people about to answer any worries...even if they are a little confusing...!!
