He's going tomorrow morning. I told YO at midday that he was for sale, and then at 4pm had to go back and tell them to expect a big lorry which is collecting him in the morning. Have spent the evening sorting out his tack and stuffing him full of likit treats.

Part of me says I want to stop it all now, keep him forever because he's such a sweetie, but the other part of em says stop being so sentimental and he'll be better off teaching another child to ride. He's going to a PC home with other ponies, so i think he'll be very happy. He'll want for nothing.

I just want to cry though

Ahh it's always hard but you're doing the right thing.

A woman on my yard has kept her duaghter's outgrown pony and it's only 15 and hasn't worked for 5 years - what a waste when it could be having fun with some other kid.

No, you're doing the right thing and I'm sure the new owners will be happy to let you have progress reports.

no, the swap pony was unsuitable when I spoke to the lady, far too foward going and whizzy for J. We're going to wait now and find him a small pony next year.

I'll blub like a baby when he's gone. The kids have been crying this afteroon, and in the end my dad went and got them a copy of H&H to look at the 'for sale' and told them they WILL have another pony, when we find one that's right.
 
Oh Katy - how sad. But you know you are doing the right thing. Can't believe you sold him so quickly so all credit to you for making into a super childs pony.

It's a good move hun, you have a bit of time to shop around and find the right pony for the children and know ginger has a fab new home.
Just think how happy he has made your two ,he will be making some new children just as happy very soon

yep yep - think of the positives otherwise you will want to keep him forever...
I sold my pony after having her for 15yrs and totally loving her...she went out on loan for a yr, came home and didnt even recognise me...!! She was a very independant pony....
in the end rather then having her sat in a field getting fat and not being ridden I decided to sell her...she went to a great home where a mother, son and daughter all ride her....
Remember the good times...
 
We've kept my daughters pony, a 12.3h 15 yr old NewForest gelding, she's had him since 8, now she's 18! I have tried to find a good home for him, because he has many years left in him. I ride him, and although I'n not that tall 5ft 3, after an hour he gets a little uncomfortable for me ( old knees!).
I find kids of 6/7/8 coming to look and because he is so strong and forward going they just can't ride him.

He needs a small teenager who wants to do games/race and have fun on!

I'm a HUGE NF fan (fingers crossed have a little NF mare coming in a few weeks) and actually prefer cheeky little ponies to horses. Sadly time doesnt allow me to play ponies too much
