Can anyone advise me on the youngest age a driver can drive a box of over 7.5 tons?
It's been suggested my daughter goes on a training scheme run by the government I think where they get to drive at over 18 rather than the normal age of 21.
Her employer has said she will be able to do it, her father reckons she won't because of her age!
(ps I know she can drive 7.5 at 18, it's a bigger box than that)
Answers please to see who's right!

Yes she can take her C test (for the 7.5+) at 18+ if she is on the young driver scheme. She can't do her C+E until she is 21, but I can't imagine she will need to bung a trailer on the end of a large lorry

I beleive that under the young drivers scheme she can only drive a lorry for her emloyer and has to be tested at regular intervals.

Hi Sue. Andy took his HGV at 18yrs & 2 months on the young driver scheme. Once passed he could then drive any waggon in GB that he was insured on. Then followed 4 assesments in 6 months so by March of the next year he was then allowed to drive abroad also. If he had decided to take a job with ANY company after passing his test he could do, provided he was insured. This statement about only being allowed to drive for the Company that puts them through the test is nonsense & is sometimes used to make the candidate feel they can not leave & work else where. Trust me, I have checked out every single detail. He has been driving a 39ft 18 tonner since passing his test.

Hi J, that's exactly what we needed, she was told she could do the training then I couldn't find anywhere on the DVLA site that said she could drive the 7 horse box.
Her boss said even if she only did the motorway driving part it would really be helpful, so armed with your info she can get started.
