As you'll see from a post further down the wonderful bankend rescue is struggling (like all charities at the moment) with a decrease in funding / giving.
SO
As you all are the most amazing bunch of people i wondered if we could come up with some great ideas for fund raising - then more importantly DO IT to raise some funds for BER.

As some of you know I have a very personal reason for wanting to help BER - toni took my boy sidney in when it was the end of the road and despite her difficulties continues to do the same for people and horses from all backgrounds to this day.

so ideas people!
So far:
Just donate!
Donate Godiva money to BER
All donate old currency and then convert it back to £'s
A "virtual" table top tack sale - with money gong to BER for the "table"
All HHOs filling a jam jar with 1p / 2p / 5ps and then giving it to BER
Having an ebay sale of old rugs / tack / riding clothes and donating cash to BER

Come on - ideas people! All those wonderful horses need us!

toni - if you're going to punch me on sunday for this can you avoid the teeth? i have veneers and I can't afford to replace them!

How about selling all our excess stuff on eBay and using their charity donation scheme to give some or all to BER?

I keep meaning to have a tackroom clearout and get no further than the first rug. This would make me do it.

I would be happy to get my baps out for BER, I will also fill a jar with 1,2,5,10 & 20 Pence pieces.

I for one cant sit by and watch toni be forced to give up something she has worked so hard at for so long & BER has and continues to help many many equines in the UK

Instead of the top or best idea, could we have a combination of maybe the top 5 ideas? That way we could broaden the range of people who may be able to contribute.

For example I would rather eat my feet than pose naked, and I don't have any tack to sell but I would find it easy to donate a bit through a website.

I remember a while back someone set up a site to donate flowers for Mary King and I found it easy to contribute to that. Could someone set up a paypal thingy to do that?

How about WE all keep OUR aged/unsound/unfit/unwanted horses in retirement which WE pay for?
Or have them PTS, if we are not prepared to retire them?
That way Bankend Rescue and other horse charities won't have to pick up the slack unless really needed (i.e. original horse owner becomes ill).
Really, Hovis_And_SidsMum, are you asking all of us to donate money to BER to enable her to keep your horse in retirement while you have a new one to ride?

You always speak so much sense Shils, I am thinking more of the horses in real need... I do believe if someone wants retirement home for their horse then they should pay retirement livery prices!!

No I'm not.
I'm asking you to help BER look after the 30 or so horses that have come from neglect \ god awful circumstances that toni has taken on.
You know nothing of my circumstances \ arranagement i have with toni so don't you dare try judge me on that. I merely stated i have a lot to thank toni for and that she is a wonderful woman.
Toni is not a retirement livery she is a charity who looks after horses that everyone else has given up on.
so before you start accusing me of trying to keep my ex horse in the life of riley funded by you i suggest you go onto tonis BER website and actually LOOK at what i'm trying to raise money for.

Edited to add - don't let your feelings about what you view i might or might not have done with my old horse colour a fund raising attempt for a charity. If you want to debate with me the ethics of what you believe i have done - start another thread and i'll "debate" with you all you like.

Just an idea that I heard from someone recently...

Gold is worth loads of money at the moment, so a great way to fundraise is to take any old/broken gold jewellery (one earing where you've lost the other etc) to a gold merchant/scrap person then donate the cash! You can get a surprising amount of money from this!

I like the sound of a photo show.

While I decline the chance of scaring everybody with my baps, I do enjoy crafting (cardmaking and that sort of thing) and would be happy to something along those lines if it would be any good?

I'll happily volunteer a beautiful horse, cute pony etc... But there is no way I'm going anywhere near a bikini!!!! I could also do with a tackroom clearout, must have some old mobiles somewhere, and could do euros etc... too, it would be really nice to help!

How about organising collection tins at shows this weekend?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you do decide to do something like this, don't forget to include the registered charity number on your tins

I applaud Toni's aims regarding BER; my post was critical of those who dump horses on rescues in the first place - I regard that as immoral.
I have to admit I don't understand your situation.
If you are paying all of Sid's costs - keep, farrier, vet, rugs, etc, and Toni's labour time, then I don't understand why you can't help out by taking Sid home, so she has one fewer to worry about?
confused.gif

After all, it will be cheaper for you to have him at home/livery with Hovis, and then you can ensure that BER has space for a truly needy horse.

I work for a place call Evolution Indoor Climbing which is a indoor climbing wall, there is a website if you want to look and we are based in east sussex. Im sure my boss would let me have it for free and eveyone could pay a £5 to come and have a go. As all the family can use kids andOH would not be left out all the money raised could go straight to charity also would be a chance for a meet up

The best times would be after closing on a fri or sat we could also do a BBQ bring your own food and beer - let me know if anyone wants to take it any further

Blimey I go to the yard for a few hours and this happens!!

You realise that I get more support from HHO members than I do my own forum members, which is why I decided to close the forum down.

You lot are amazing, thanks again for this Karen.

Shils in Karen's defence she and her hubby donate to us heavily all year round for Sid and the others.

One thing I must state though is that at present we are a registered not for profit company but our charity registration is not yet complete, hopefully it will be within the next 6 weeks.

Members of the New Rider forum did a photo show and it raised quite a bit of money, people donated to enter, offered to judge and could sponsor classes. The classes ranged from best of breed type classes to best action shot.

I think an online tack sale would also be a great way to raise funds for BER
