Hello

Hoping I don't scare the sun away writing this....

A few of you will know I've held some meet ups with HHo'ers at my home last year & a couple in the winter..I've made some lovely friends on here and the difference it has made to my dog & building his confidence in new people has been trully amazing - I at least think we've had some really nice eves...its been a while so I thought I would give some notice & see who else might like to join in.

So far it has always been at my home and girls only, no guests dogs or kids or partners had come as the plan was to keep it small & simple & and set him up for success...(he's especially scared of men and terrified of people who are scared of him..yes he's a big bear but the knees still knock behind the bark!)

I wondered if we should risk an outdoorsey meet up maybe now it seems to be the warm end of winteryspring(I daren't say it!) I know a few lovely spots that would be easy to get to & involve a little walk ..but if numbers are small enough & the weather does go wrong are near enough to drive to my house.

I'd like to know who is interested? Same as before we've all chipped in with food, tho at home I've usually cooked curry & everyone else has brought sides, starters or puddings..but for a picnic we could do a mexicany tortilla wrapy kind of something that can be easily assembled...or brave a bbq(possibly easier at home for this!)

My dog will still be VERY barky with new people & scared at first plus its going to be "new people outdoors are nice too" training..if any of you have a trusty calm friendly stooge dog that might be suitable..we could possibly start adding some four leggeds in at some point. One of the spots I had in mind has a lovely little creek that we often stop & play swimming/fishing in the river which is a very nice walk...& very relaxing for 2 & 4 leggeds!

equally anyone who would like to start doing some organised dog walks please get in touch too...

We've had some great fun & he's made some lovely friends & now cries when he sees them & gets really sad when they go home & cries more!
All originals welcome of course!

Looking forward to hearing from you & meeting some new faces...

I would be interested......... depending on dates, I have 2 dogs, bedlington and a whippet. Both are totally dog friendly, get on with every dog, and dont get over excited or friendly so are perfect for socialising another dog. i use them as foster socialisers so they are used to mixing with all sorts.

Perfect! that would be excellent - he's a rescue(I think you may have endured some of my earlier musings/panics & stressings on here!) The girls who've met him so far...well lets just say he has a LOT of 2 legged HHO girlfriends once he's braved the first move & realised they are treat & cuddle dispensers!! Fools Motto is owned by the lovely Ebby who has helped him and even been for a meal here so she I'm sure will be happy to tell you we're semi sane-if my oven is behaving (long story!) I try to make thank you goodies for dogs who help or those who've allowed their owners out for the eve..

Where abouts are you in Devon? I'm in Shepton Mallet-not too far from the Bath & West Showground

I can't let you eat all the cake by yourself, :D:D

thank you for saving me from having to eat the entire thing...I might have to make it a 6 tier one...can use as an anchor!:Dxx

Depends how west :)

Near Shepton Mallet in Somerset...tho don't panic just yet..I'm from W.S originally too so if this is too far I will let you know when house sells as will be needing new HHOers for meet ups back home!I can do Arundel/Chi to stables in about 2h/2h15 so not too bad -its about 110-20 miles depending on route:D

i am near Okehampton, so Shepton Mallet about an hour.

Ok well there are a few that come longer distances so I am happy to be time/date flexible as I'm sure we all have horses to do before setting off etc..I usually pm anyone interested with a choice of dates and then put any of you in touch who might be interested in lift sharing that way. I do feel happier tho near the time if I can swap numbers with anyone coming simply so that God forbid any equine dramas on the eve/day I can have some way of contacting..also helps when sat navs keek out or you get lost!:)

I don't have a dog, but I could borrow a giant rabbit...

On second thought, maybe I'll just come sans animaux :D.

Animals non compulsory!:D tho you are very welcome to borrow Wool-I-Am-I know you like him!..now that he's lost his John McCririck side burn fleece!

I have to be 100% honest that my dog is as scared of/reactive to new people as he is to new dogs so any coming MUST be very placid stooge types(like Bosworths & Fools Mottos) - once he's figured they are nice he just wants to play (and doesn't have an off switch!) so bare in mind where I am there will be deer(5 live by my sheep field and only appear when i am at the top of the steep plungey bit!)...and some local livestock that potentially wander over when they smell a moo-b-q I tend to keep him on a long line fixed to my waist(arms don't always behave & have strength when needed:p) so you could potentially have tonnes of entertainment with just me & him. I involuntarily sometimes chase cats & deer..you would not believe how fast my legs can go:D

I am up for coming fancy a night away somewhere so will find a dog friendly b&b

I do have a book of dog friendly b&bs(tho I've not yet managed to get away to use it!) What kind of doglets do you have? He's never met more than one at a time without having met singularly first so if they are chilled ones that will cope with him initially being reactive(barks & backs off then wants to play like a mad looooooon) it could be brilliant to help him. We've worked on the stress diarrhea on meeting new people & i think that the last two have just been rabbit droppings and these are now mostly only ever with men..so would be great to have a group of nice 4 leggeds to help him do what the lovely 2 leggeds of HHo have so far done for his nerves with new people..think of all the cake! If they get on there would possibly be the option to stay here tho depends if I have viewing on the house the following day or not(Estate agent brought his stooge lab bitch after one viewing which was 2 hours before the next..after 4 nano seconds it looked like the lawn had pigs on it for 6 weeks & the downstairs ..lets just say it wasn't dissimmilar!Luckily the lady who viewed second laughed as she has rescued dogs for years& completely understood!huge phew as that could have been a disaster!:D its dried up a lot here since luckily!

potentially, sans any animals but could do with a dog fix ;).

I drive back to somerset from wilts most weekends so if it fitted in :)

I'm more than sure there will be enough takers for more than one picnic whether its one near the yard or at home..one of us is expecting..another is on wedding count down so I can see that will mean very good reasons for at least 3 summery meet ups at least so no one is left out!:D Where abouts are you Ester?

thats not too far..you would come off at Bruton or Win if its at house-tho I guess depends on how the weather is behaving!

lol yup can be flexible :) if know where and when will see what can do (and bake a cake ;) )

:D ooh...did someone mention cake? Excellent! Home is Shepton, which is only 6 miles from stables which is where the nice walk with picnicky quiet spot I had in mind is..so worst case if we aimed to start there, if it gets too hot or too cold or rains or too midgey then we can always go home and there are fields by the house too

..I'm going to do a stake out for some other nice spots that won't be too pestered by random strangers ..went for a gorgeous walk yesterday by Alfreds tower & the bluebells were out..tho i did get horrifically lost(didn't stick to paths-that would have been dull!) :D was lovely & forresty & nice but I think that is disaster prone if it gets dark before we realise we get lost! The field by the stables is a lovely circuit & pretty & quiet other than some meandering moos we are very much likely not to be bothered by anything..

So now all I need is everyone to pm me dates/times that would be suitable for everyone to allow for travelling & 2 leggeds & doing animals etc? I'll do a group pm to confirm..
