Okay a challenge for us all on here! I hope we can turn this into a discussion thread as well.
I want you to share with us a piece of footage which you think is particularly bad- could be of a top trainer etc- demonstrating what you think is bad horsemanship. Then, I want you to post another piece of footage- it could be another trainer or even better, yourself trying to train the same/something similar and whether you think it's better or whether you are pleased with the desired result and how you got there or what you would change.
I set myself this challenge; I used a video of a professional BHS instructor and then me training one of my horses; I think I did the better job because not only did I get my desired result more efficiently, I believe my horse is more relaxed, in terms of environment and mental state! More over, I think the professional's video fails to show or demonstrate any application of praise. The horse *does* get the odd hard pat, but I'd rather give them a scratch or as I clicker train, a treat. The horse gets punished for not doing the right thing, but doesn't get praised for doing the right thing either.
