HHOs' guide to surviving the winter

on a night that's due to freeze, put an empty clean dustbin under the yard tap and set it to a fast drip (i do this at about 9-10pm when i do late stables), it very very rarely freezes and you have a bin full of fresh water ready to use in the morning.
wooly hats.
good gloves.
blazewear bodywarmer = toasty core, therefore extremities don't freeze!
 
As with baby oil, main and tail conditioner works to keep mane and tails from getting too muddy (and makes it alot easier to brush out). If your short on cash a cheap furniture polish works just as well!

Hot clothing with dettol helps lift dust etc from the coat, almost as good as giving them a bath but without the freezing cold water!

Old duvets or blankets work just as well for keeping horses warm as any stable rug, just put a thin sheet on top to keep them in place.

Lots of layers, so you can take them off when riding if you get too hot, and put them on again once your finished!

Ski-ear-band things.

Take wellies out of car overnight so they dont get so cold.
