So in the process of discussing pedigrees of event horses current and very far past I stumbled onto a mystery.
The horse "The Gray Goose" a perennial eventing star of the 70's and 80's has a bit of a mystery with regards to his damline. Since he was born in Ireland and given how many "Unknowns" I see in current Irish horses, I wasn't super shocked.
But in "Gray's" case I'm wondering if Irish pride and a whole lot fewer superstars from Irish breeding landing at the top of the game, might have kept some legends of his life in the minds of horsemen that thought highly of him.
Here's what I know:
He was born in 1970 in probably County Clare or near there. He initially belonged to the brother Burke in County Clare. Kim, his owner, rode him for a year there before buying him.
He was sired by Hill Tarquin and originally named Brilliant Tarquin or something close.
When he was being cheeky the folks around his rider would suggest it was "The Bold Ruler in him." Since Hill Tarquin didn't have Bold ruler in his lineage it's thought to be a hint about him dam who reportedly was a 3/4 bred Tb.
I get this isn't much. But I figured I could at least ask and maybe someone who reads this might have an idea, a thought etc.
I hope you all are doing well. Cudo sends his best. Chad is thriving with his owner Devon and LOVES Fox Hunting in an unholy way though now is gearing up for show season. And Lad, Gin and Max are well also.
Many thanks as always,
Emily
