hi all im new and need some advice urgent please

hi im new to the forum and have not even had time to say hi yet. problem this morning while turning out mare out she got to close to another horse and he bit her on the nose but u heard the skin split as his teeth hit her in the nose hard. and split the skin on her nose deep right in the middle of her face just above where the nose band fits and im sure its the bone i can see, the cut isnt very big but deep. sweeling came up stright away and bleeding. not alot of blood but im not sure if i call a vet or wait and she... she wont let me get close to it of course because its hurting, should i wait if not when should i call the vet.

Id call the vet just incase it gets infected it may still need a stitch if its deep, if you leave it too long and its deep the vet may be unwilling to stitch incase of stitching infection in, if she wont let you near enough to see whats it like may be your best bet to call your vet.

thanks i was thinking of going back down there now, and see if the blood has stopped. and see if i can get near her, and call the vet thanks xx

You may well need antibiotics, so yep, I'd give the vet a buzz.

vet very definitely, you need her sedated so that you can see exactly what damage has been done, and to give her antibiotics (and possibly stitches) if necessary.
i don't think i'd turn her out with such a nasty horse either, if she was mine.

Blimey! I'm amazed that you went home while your ned was bleeding from a cut you thought might have been down to the bone! I wouldn't have left her like that. She needed a vet straight away hun. When in doubt, get vet out. Hope it's all stitched up by now x
