If this is a new thing for you to be experiencing without known cause, maybe you have an ear issue which affects our sense of balance and can cause nausea - either infection or labyrinthitis (inner ear inflammation)? Worth getting an ear inspection to rule it out. Are you ok going up heights and not having nausea? Using ladders? Less likely to be chronic ear issue, and maybe a temporary problem youre only noticing while at a height on horseback.

Or it could be nausea associated with nerves/anxiety. If you relate to this, have you had you confidence knocked-back due to some horse-related incident? It’s normal for nerves to arise when this happens, and some nausea can be felt alongside the nerves. Building confidence takes time, and can be regained fully. Many posters on here mention certain methods and practitioners that help to build confidence so if applicable to your situation, it’s worth starting a thread on that subject or searching the forum for previous threads for tips regaining confidence.

I’ve had ear infections and worked at heights so have felt the nausea due to balance being off, aswell as feeling nauseous due to nerves, on and off horses. I also have nausea when my immune system is going full-on dealing with an insect bite. Heights, horses and insects pretty much go together, so nausea might be more common amongst us horse folk than we realise!

Nerves was my first thought too
I get this sometimes and it's bl**dy annoying to feel ok in your head but anxious in your guts. Mine isn't related to anything specific and goes away if I ignore it.
As PB says, if you think this might be you there's lots of advice on here
Good luck!

Have you recently had Covid?

For a few weeks after, I would feel dizzy when riding, so much that I had to stop and take some breaths. I felt all spacey, if I had not stopped I would have also been nauseous as it felt like when you are in the back of a car and can't see where you are going to turn, and your head takes a second to catch up with where you are, but continuously.

The man who painted my house including the chimneys told me he’s been experiencing a bit of vertigo since his second covid vaccine. His doctor has prescribed medication for ear issues as the first stage of a process of elimination.

off the top of my head: pregnancy, vertigo, IBS, brain issues (balance/visual cortex), light sensitivity, eyesight changes.
In short - GP.
Impossible to tell over a forum I'm afraid

I get awful nausea and dizziness if I try to ride in the sea, I'm ok if I can get into deeper water but find it very hard to get past the shallows. I think it's the combination of the movement of the water underneath me and the horse's movement as I'm fine if I paddle in the sea or even on a boat but I can still feel a bit wobbly for a good 10 minutes after I've been in the sea on the horse. I now just stand at the water's edge as my friends go for a play in the waves. It could be a movement thing for you too, especially if you've had one instance where it happened and it's now triggered a memory response. You might need to re-programme that memory response by doing different things or even having a bit of a break to break the cycle. Have you tried different surfaces - even different colour surfaces in terms of the schools you're riding in? Is it better out hacking where it's all straight lines?

I feel nauseous if I've booked a lesson. I've ridden for years and I would say over the last 2 years I've felt this way. I still go competing, I ride most days and feel absolutely fine, its just lessons!! Are you feeling this way at riding in general or a particular riding activity?
