Hi All,

I dont post very often prefering to look and learn..... but i need your help.
I have a 2 yr old (August) filly and 2 days ago i noticed although you couldnt really miss it a large hard lump on her jaw line underneath (where her head collar would sit). Its not soft there is no cut etc.... it feels like a tooth

Does that make sense. I have tried to look in her mouth but cant see anything

She is eating normally, looks ok and is her normal self. I am trying to get a dentist out as i think its a dentist job rather than a vet job (well i'm hoping thats the case). I'm really scared as i bred her myself and i really dont want anything to happen to her.
Have any of you experienced a problem like this? I will post a photo of it tomorrow.

Thanks Claire

Box_of_frogs and Ischa thanks for your replies.

Box_of_frogs i really hope its nothing to serious, i'm scared to death x

Ischa no she is'nt dropping food, and she is still munching grass ok. When i put a headcollar on her she was'nt bothered and i have pressed it and the area around it but it does'nt bother her.

I will let you know the outcome when i get a dentist.

Could easily be a tooth problem - adult tooth coming through wrong or baby tooth not fallen out or abscess. Defo dentist job x

What she said.

Dont panic Claire it sounds like adult teeth coming through making the underside of the jaw look lumpy which is perfectly normal in a 2 year old. I would speak to your EDT to put your mind at rest.

AmyMay - Thanks, i hope so.

Llwyncwn - i am trying to get an appointment, its just a big lump, i will post a picture when i've finished work.

Thanks for all your advice guys xx

Is the lump mobile or is it fixed?

I am thinking its a toothy type of lump.

Hope the EDT can help. I understand how you must be feeling.

Good luck.

Dont worry all the young horses that I have had have this, it will gradually go down as she gets older. They are know as toothy bumps. Just be careful that the headcollar does not rub them.

I forgot to take my camera up the yard, but i will tomorrow.

The lump is fixed hb6 and im hoping it's a toothy lump i have a dentist coming next week.

trot345 i'm making sure when i do put a headcollar on her its a large one, so it doesnt rub.

Again thanks all, i will put picture on tomorrow. xx
