Hello everyone!

Thought i better introduce myself here. My name is Jo, 28, from the not-so-sunny Cotswolds. :)

I've been around horses all my life and have worked in most disciplines, but have worked with polo ponies since 2006 and recently married my polo player of a husband (no escape! :D ). We have busy summer seasons with the ponies, but they are fantastic animals, so willing, versatile and athletic, I have learnt so much from them and just wish people could understand them on the same level, as unfortunately, polo can get a very bad rep and misunderstood greatly.

I love reschooling and hope to set up my own yard soon, focussing on ex racers and polo pones. I have a bit of a motley crew of neds on the yard, but my main little bundle of joy is Enigma. My hubby broke her for polo as a 5yr old, he adored her, but she just never took to the sport. She'd be the fastest thing on the pitch... but in the opposite direction heading for the hills as hubby (stick, whip, hat a-flying) would be clinging on for dear life! :D :D Ok Enigma, we get the message hun! So i started reschooling with her in 2008 when she was 10yrs old and thankfully, she has found her calling in life. She loves to jump and within a year i was able to affiliate her and now compete up to 1m05s and am hoping to pop her round some newcomers this winter season (i haven't found her limit yet, but she has so much power for a midget!):

I've had a few OTTBs over the last few years (I did register on here before as Waterside_Inn, but i had to sell him when Enigma stole my heart!), here is Shorty's story:

And, finally, have recently gained a couple of Irish babies, both 3yrs old, Daisy Doolittle:

She's an ISH, approx 16hh at the mo, by Derrymore Renegade out of Sal Le Froy

And Nube (Noo-bay):

TB colt, by Cloudings out of Shore Walker. He's about 15hh atm, we're hoping he won't grow too much as I'll "let" the hubby have him as his toy to see how he takes to polo! :D

Blimey, i've gone on!! Looking forward to "meeting" new people on here!

Take care
Jo and the crew!! :D

that hedge piccie always makes me laugh - giving it some air lol!

Bless ol' Jobba (Jobsagoodun), he used to jump like that over everything and is the only horse ever to make my stomache turn coming in for landing over a fence, he was like a rollercoaster! :D

hiii *waves* *solo's mum* here ;)

Helloo there hun! :) x

Hello :D

Ooh polo, any advice on polo ponies would be much appreciated, I have a 12yo ex-polo, with 'just a few' teething problems :) :p x

Hi there! Great to hear you have an ex polo-po! What sort of teething problems are you having? :) x

Well I've had him for nearly six months now and we're only just beginning to get somewhere. The goal is to successfully hack out alone (hacking in company is not an option) and eventually do a bit of hunting etc.

But he has been very nappy - bucks, spins (very quick spinner from his polo days) - yet everything has been checked and he is fully sound.
He is ridden is a snaffle bit with a standing martingale on. x

Hmmm... hard to tell without seeing the problem in person, but what's he like to lead out? Any good on long-lines, or even just in hand for now to get him out and see the sights but with you guiding him on foot? Or, someone walking next to you? :)

Is hacking in company not an option because he is kept on his own, or because he just won't go with other neds?

Hi there!
I also have an ex polo pony. And he was no picnic to work with in the start either!
Nobel was also ridden all the time in a sanding martingale, and it caused a lot of problems. He also used to spin and buck (flykicking too!) so I took the martingale off... I never liked it anyways. It was a huge gamble! Because he then had more room to move and be "bad" but instead, he stopped being silly. It's a small change, but might be worth a try for you too. Just be careful! I've had mixed results with other ponies. :)
Hope it helps!

X

Double handed wave! Hello Enigma!
Ex polo pony owner who also has a nappy pony when hacking alone.
Not a fan of the standing martingale, nathe bomber bit (tongue issues) and a breast plate works well for me.....something to hold on to when we spin!
