hi all

nice to meet everyone!

I would love some advice please on loaning systems!
I have recently agreed to take on a sharer for my boy as i am starting a new job in september!
I wanted to draw up a contact for the both of us so we no where we stand,
we are not having a rota system because i want us to be friends and do them together sometimes and just generally be quite chilled about the whole thing and help each other out!
So really want i want is a contract about general stuff like what she can and cant do with him and things like that

any advice welcome thank you :) xxx

Hi, get them to get personal insurance and get in the contract that you personally dont take resposibilty for any injury that occurs. Also may be worth having a trial period just to check that your both happy.Im not 100% about the rules of sharing as i full loan but the BHS have a Loan agreement for full loan, maybe you could get some ideas off there. :)

thanks guys happy to be here!
Now just worried about getting slightly addicted haha
that sounds great will have to check out there website and see if i can take anything from it
thank you xx

Hi, welcome!
I currently loan a horse and also have a sharer. I am wierd in the sense that I don't have anything in writing for either despite coming from a family full of solicitors!!. If you'd like something on paper, then there is a BHS loan contract that you could look at for ideas on what might suit you. The link has been posted here before.
Why not sit down with your sharer and write up something together that you both sign and are happy with? For example, I have little rules with my sharer that might seem small but can be the diff between a sound and lame horse ie: all 4 brushing boots must be worn when hacking up the forest and jumping, and hooves picked out before and after riding. Also I don't allow draw reins, bank transfer first of every month and half of shoes to be paid, also must have insurance....you get the general idea.
Hope that's helpful, and good luck.

hiya thanks koda, that sounds great! will deff be having a look at the link!

to be cheeky how much does your sharer pay dont worry if u dont wanna say or you could pm if you wanted to im just worried im over/under charging lol

We split 3 days each per week, then the mare has 1 day off per week. As the riding days are 50/50 we split the livery costs that way too and the shoes are 50/50. When it comes to vet expenses like vaccinations, I pay that as I am the primary carer. If the horse goes lame in my sharers care depending on the situation it would either be 50/50 or taken care of by my sharer. If she goes lame out in the field or in my care, it's all on me.
Most people on here (I think) would recommend having the details in writing and signed.
I tried out/auditioned several people before settling on the right one, and she's fab! Ultimately it all comes down to 'do I trust this person?' You need to be confident that they will abide by the rules while you're not there, pay on time, and ride your horse sensibly etc. I had two previous sharers who did not fit the above. By the third time I knew exactly what to look for, and what I wanted, and all good so far...
