Hi. I've introduced approx 500g per day of HI FI Good Doer, to my chubby new forest pony, just to ensure he gets his vits and mins. He's been having it for 6 days now, and has had loose poos this week. Approximately a third of his daily droppings are loose (I poo pick every day so it's easy to judge). He also gets a slice of hay and is out 24/7 on 2/3 of an acre of reasonable grazing (reasonable for a very good doer).

Do you think the intro of this new feed is the problem, how much longer would you leave it before withdrawing the feed to see if it makes a difference? He is very well in himself, bright and full of energy. He was wormed with Equest Pramox at the start of Sept. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Did you just take him off of one feed and completely change to the good doer? What was he on before? It might be that he just getting used to the feed/ nutritional change. Why did you change the feed to start with? If he continues to have loose droppings could you just change his diet back or put some pink powder in his feed.

Has anything else in his routine changed? The only way to see if the feed is responsible is to remove it from his diet completely for a set period of time. Good luck

The only change is his bestest lady friend has moved paddock, they were either side of the fence. She's still within sight of him, he doesn't seem that concerned but she has been calling to him. They all seem to have got the wind up their tails this week.

Could it be the change in grass? I wouldn't have noticed - my mares field doesn't have any. It can give them loose droppings in spring so maybe it can in autumn too??

Have you had much pain lately? The grass could be having one final flourish before winter...the pony mine shares a paddock with has been quite loose this last week and as nothing has changed for either of them it's the only thing I can think of that could have caused it for him.

We had a huge deluge overnight then not much else last weekend, the paddocks went from straw coloured to green in about 48 hours, so, that could be it. Perhaps I should have left giving him the feed another week or so.

I think if there has been a flush in the grass and quite a bit of rain his diet will be wetter and his poos will be wetter.

I feed my chubby NF dengie good doer he also lives out and he had no problems when he first went on to it - it is very high fibre and unless you are drenching it in water unlikely to cause runny poos or tummy problems.
