HI Fi Lite or Orginal

I have been feeding Hi Fi Lite for as long as I can remember but today for some reason got the Original - blond moment!!!

Is there much difference? before I open bag and then find it sends then loppy
 
There isn't much difference calorie wise as Hi Fi Lite it 7.5 and Hi Fi is 8 but the sugar levels are very different. Hi Fi has a sugar level of 8 or 9 I think and Hi Fi lite is 4. If your horse isn't prone to lami then you should be fine. I feed Hi Fi Good Doer in summer and Hi Fi Original in winter.

Good Doer has 8% sugar, its slightly lower energy wise and with added minerals, If your horse isn't affected by the sugar content then I wouldn't worry. What I don't like is the moould inhibitors in them
 
Not in anyway knowledgable enough to know the ins and outs of the mould inhibitors but read this once.....

"Application of preservatives can prevent the development of musty odor and mold in the hay that is not adequately dried. Most preservatives applied to horse hay contain organic acids that are the same as those found in the horse’s gastrointestinal tract. Propionic and acetic acid, the most common organic acids used in hay preservatives are produced naturally in the cecum and colon of horses as a result of microbial digestion of fibrous feeds. These organic acids can be used as mold inhibitors and applied when hay is not yet dry enough to bale safely but rain is coming and crop may be lost if not baled early. Research studies have shown that heating and molding of hay during storage is decreased with the use of preservatives."
