Hi Fi Lite vs Top Chop Lite

I think it depends how much you're feeding, tbh.

If it's just half a handful with a supplement or balancer, I'd be happy to use either. Probably the hi-fi, as it works out cheaper (at my feed merchant, at least).

If you're feeding more, or using as a partial hay replacer, then I would go for the top chop without molasses.

You could also look at simple systems lucie stalks as another option :)

Thank you, everyone!

I wasn't aware that Hi Fi contained molasses. I must inform myself better . . .

Yes, it does indeed :)

The Top Chop is the best low calories chaff on the market IMO, but it is indeed a little more pricey.

I actually use the Dengie good doer for my girl, but she only has a 300gm per day, just to go with her balancer.

mine wasn't too keen on the taste of Hi Fi as he's a picky bugger, but he loves Top Chop and will eat it on it's own and thinks he's having a 'proper' feed!!! Bless!

I use hifi original with apple for my welsh good doer albeit she doesnt have a lot its just to bulk out her balancar really...

I used Top Chop initially and then switched to Hi Fi, as it's a bit cheaper.
My Mare was not at all impressed with my money saving choice, so I have switched back to Top Chop and she's much happier now.

Its all quite missleading; The new Dengie molasses free Hi Fi only has a combination of 3.5% sugar and starch.

You would think the Good Doer would have less sugar than the Hi Fi, but has 8% sugar, rather than 4%!! although the energy level is lower

I wish feed companies would put the sugar and starch contents on the labels

I use the hifi lite, I did try the top chop lite and also fibregy, but Seren refused the fibregy after a few days, and Mels wouldnt touch the top chop lite when normally she will eat anything!

Very interesting indeed!

same with my girl, although she stopped eating the hi-fi after she had eaten a bag, and I had just bought a second one

I've used both over the years but have now changed to the new Hi Fi Molasses Free as they seem to really like the taste and can easily feed Global Herbs (even Skratch!)
