Hi there,

I'm new to the forum but i do admit to lurking for many years.... I'm in (not so) sunny Queensland and i have 2 Arabians...a grumpy gelding of 13 year old who I've had for 10 years and a sweet opinionated filly of 4 years old who i coveted since the day she was born...i lived most of my life in uk and Europe

I always love the discussions and the advice.

Lovely to finally 'be' here

Jacqueline

Hello and welcome. For once I think most of us in the UK and Ireland can say hello from a very sunny location as there has been very little rain this spring, however that is about to change as much needed rain is forecast. I like the way you describe your horses, they sound characters. What do you do with them? I’ve been a happy hacker for most of my life though in my younger days I used to SJ. Hope you stay around now and at some point post a photo or two of your horses.

Hi there,

I do everything with my 2, Riley the older chap is a bit of a looney hacking out in groups but it's great at dressage. Nothing too competitive, o compete at club level and love it. We compete at elementary level and will not go higher as I'm worried about soundness.... He had splint surgery a year ago.

Ella, the filly is green broken and coming along beautifully. I will do all with her also, and low level dressage.

I show jumped in younger days also and loved it but just jump low now and usually out on trails.

I'll try upload a couple recent pics. Riley is the red chestnut and Ella liver rabicano on the right....i also have a tiny welsh A diva as a companion, Pixie (borrowed from a neighbour). Both are registered pure breed but super different types. Mine live out all year. Tell me about your horsies and interests, would love to knowPXL_20250122_085357830.MP~4.jpg

Thank you, the Arabians have huge egos and welcome your admiration....

And well done you not having a horse! I rode other people's for awhile then I'm not how i ended up with 2... Well 2.5 i suppose with Pixie...

But owning horses here a different animals to the UK.... Much cheaper and easier, thank goodness.

Would love to see you on your Welsh D!

I’m going to Dubai in December, have found a riding school with Arabians and hope to have a go (or two). Any tips gratefully received!
Tips? Goodness I'm not sure. I don't find them different to any other horses, every horse has their quirks. One of mine is spooky and reactive, (gelding) the other unflappable.... The gelding was abused badly as a youngster before i got him and the filly has never seen anything negative in her life, so i put their behaviour down to their backgrounds more than breed really .

I know Arabs do have a reputation though... But i think they are just like any breed, all individuals. Although i could say that they learn amazingly fast so they tend to get bored easily... Love to work though.

Ohhhh. Also they seem to listen intently and people sometimes think they always have ears back, but they just listen...

Hello!! I am a long way off but my heart is with you guys. So jealous of all the wonderful events and facilities in UK. Not so much here. But we do have great trails with wildlife everywhere....

Last November it was lovely i believe, in fact it was lovely until end January i think then it started raining and hasn't really stopped for long.

Welcome 👋

Lovely horses. What's the history on the damaged left fore, it looks like it was quite an injury?
.

He had a pretty bad paddock accident and ended up having splint surgery, (to remove a displaced break)which went very well. Trouble it's, the vet took some skin off when shaving the leg prior to surgery and he developed cellulitis under the bandage so had to be rushed back to hospital. The scarring and white hair is from the cellulitis, the surgery scar is invisible almost and on the inside. It looks horrific but seen up close isn't lumpy, just missing a little hair still.

But that, the surgery and the cellulitis was the reason i decided to get a younger one. Cos i didn't want him to become unsound. I've had him 10 years and hope he's around forever!

Isn't she gorgeous!!!!. I'll post another pic. I fell in love with her at birth, my friend bred her....i only have her cos she didn't grow as big as Cathy wanted to compete in the Arab shows.... And Cathy wanted her to have a life, not be used to make Arabian ponies (popular here) She's just pushing 14hh. She is an Heir of Marwan grandbaby.

First pic was in her break. She was broken in February then was turned out for 9 weeks to have a think, this was in the 9 weeks. Second one was a bath last Sunday. She's bum high so about to grow again

Can i see your Arabs too please?
