...finally got tired of being 'cut off' at at the 5? article limit for H & H non-members; the cost of this m'ship is the same as a small vet bill, so hyperventilating a bit :), but too many good stories on here to miss, otherwise. I used to buy the magazine sometimes (in the pre-internet daze), and always enjoyed it. Also have quite a few Brit transplants to Canada horse-y friends (ex Manchester, Staffordshire etc.).

After a Pony Club [underachieving!] youth, followed by flat TB racing work, my own small boarding stable and endurance riding, I'm now a hack mad type. Years of zipping around on Arabs have given way to a coupla decades on the same medium pony; good motivation to stay fit/small! Last summer I'd just retired that now 31ish yr old pony, and was bicycling obsessively fast on a paved canal path (to get 'gallop fix') when I had a violent fall, ugh.

Smashed right onto the hip a racetrack accident had compromised in my 20's, and because of medicare (our NHS) backlogs had to wait 3 days for a total hip replacement. Lack of nursing staff led to first too few pain meds, followed by an overdose which left me 'unresponsive' till a nurse did happen to check in, yay! Relieved to make it home, and have had good physio; now ready to get back in saddle (horse, not bike!) soon.

I plan to begin on a lesson pony, since my trusty ol' medium is busy playing bingo and taking bus tours! I have a 4 yr old med I acquired before my hipwreck, who has been in training while I worked on getting severed tendons from op functional again. Still have a wee bit of a hitch in my giddy up, but getting there i.e. not walking so much like I just got off a fishing boat in the North Atlantic!

Looking forward to learning more horse stuff (never ends, eh!) and meeting more horsecentric people; there used to be a good BB/forum in Canada, but now the closest thing is Chronicle of the Horse in the States. 'COTH' is a good BB, but you Brits et al. seem to be one of the most truly horse mad communities, hence my move over the pond. Apologies for the long intro, but happy to be here :).

Hello and welcome! Well done for demonstrating courage and perseverance in the face of adversity. I have a vintage (>30yrs) Arabian gelding who still thinks he's a three year old. He throws the most extraordinary shapes in the fields and specialises in "airs above the ground" when being led in or out.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

PS. Do you follow Keystone Equine on Facebook? I do. I believe she is in Canada.

Thanks for the welcome! Hope my looongish intro didn't sound too sad/bad; happened to hit a rough patch (literally!), but trudging along and not giving up on ponybutlering or riding :). To above poster soon to holiday in Canada, hope you have a great time. By April/May snow should be gone, depending on where you're headed, yay. And to Ratface, I haven't run into 'Keystone Equine' yet, but I'll bet she's from Manitoba (known as the Keystone province, due to it's keyhole shape...had my small boarding stable there, on the Canadian prairie!). Cheers to everyone!
