second year in a row the midget nailed his qualification early on :)

Baking hot day at Kingswood so didn't push the warm up too much as its a very simple test for the pairs 5yo, so did a lot of watching the big fancy horses and saying "please trot like that"!!!

In the test he honestly couldn't have gone any better, metronome tempo, never lost focus (despite the mare we were in with ending up miles ahead of us, so often circling in front or going the opposite direction, he just carried on like she didn't exist) and was really supple and rideable.

scored a straight 7, only 0.08 off the winner but got a lovely overall comment from the judge (none other than Ferdi Eilberg) of "a nice way of going" so i can retire happy i think!!!

So thats him off to the BD YH champs again :)

He has a NEXGEN 5yo qualifier in 2 weeks which is a much more complex test, hard elementary level so fingers crossed for that.

in the meantime we will be quietly working away on the flying changes at home, little vid below.....these are starting to become so much more rideable now, so i can set him up better and help the balance :)

AND we will be doing a lot of charging round the countryside like maniacs....best life tonic!

Well done - Could you explain a little more about the process and test? I have a smart 5yo but its so backwards that it just has the basics established. It would be prelim/novice level not Elementary and she is nowhere near that collected powerful dr trot. I don't think she will get anywhere but it could be a good experience for her as we have a Q in September.

Hiya ive attached a pic of the pairs test.

you go in together and get a mark for you walk, trot, canter and overall impression and then the top 6 (with a score over 7) go back in for a final go round BUT i dont think they are doing that this year because of covid.

its a skill in itself riding a good test with another horse in with you....you need to keep close but not too close and look up and around to make sure you dont cut each other up if one gets left behind.test.JPG
