I have receintly purchased a beautiful Reg Welsh Section B. He's just turned 10. He was castrated in March having been used as a licensed stallion.
I would like to show him in hand and under saddle next season firstly at a local level.
I would appreciate any advise or help with getting me started. I have tried to google as much info as possible howerve its left me some what confused? It says a welsh sec B should be shown in its natural state but then goes onto say that the main should be no longer than 6-8 inches. Whiskers on the face/muzzle should be removed as to feathers on the legs trimmed?? Can anyone help me show my boy to his best ability.

Thank you all in advance

Sarah & Rowan:)

Hi , your sec b pony needs to be shown in a natural state but can be tidied up to some extent, his mane can be pulled to a length that enhances his neck but should not look too neat.
Ears can be trimmed so that they dont have the tufts that look untidy and the jaw line can also be trimmed, the legs can have some of the feather removed, again not looking cut just trim down the leg into the heels.
His tail can be cut at the bottom, not too short and you can also pull some at the top to enhance the shape of him.
I hope this is some help for you to start, just do a little at a time so he still looks fairly natural you should be trying to show off his best features, a good quality bridle is a worthwhile investment as that can help also.

Hi and welcome! It says pictures in your title, but I see no pics! :( We're a nosey lot here, we like to look at peoples' horses! :D

Can't help with ridden showing, but I used to show a section C in hand.

As bp said, you can tidy him up without looking obvious. A natural mane and tail just means no plaits.
Baby oil on the legs and face was one of my favourite cheats ;)

Also you will need to spend time making sure he walks and trots in hand calmly and obediently. I made the mistake of skimping on this the first time, and my pony put so much effort into pratting about during the trot up he fell over, and spent the rest of the class with mud spread all down one side. Needless to say we weren't placed in that one...

Thank you! That's helped alot already. How do i add pictures???? ive been looking at the pc for ages but im not getting anywhere fast lol x
