Ihave recently bought a horse he's 3 yrs old came from a pet background he has done nothing since weaning.

I've had horse 2 weeks on trial b4 paying for him old owners came down saturday for payment etc but didnt bring the passport so i didnt pay them i asked them to post it as i needed it to take my horse to new livery yard they said theres nothing in it the horse has never had any injections.

They have never mistreated this horse its in very fine condition just a matter of ''the natural'' way... so now where do i stand do i get something knocked off the price to cover the cost of all injections as i would still really want to keep this horse not too sure how to go about this thanks in advance for any advice!!

If I were them I wouldn't knock any money off the price to cover you getting him jabbed, if they decided not to thats up to them.

we bought one of our horses 'au naturel' as the previous owner who had bred him was very holistic. He was beautifully cared for and in perfect health but we had to start with his injections from scratch. She would not have reduced the cost for this reason (and I didn't think about asking to be honest). Good luck though.

I have to admit - I agree with the others, it's not something I'd try and get the price knocked off for - after all for most owners, injections will be a regular cost. Nor, would I walk away from a horse that was perfect in every other repsect for me other than needing to start a course of injections.

But ... good for you if you do ask and get a discount for it, it's just not something I'd do or expect to happen.

i understand that but its the fact that they never mentioned it when i first asked that has me wondering! plus there reluctant to pass on passport! would i be able to get a new passport issued for him? and start from scratch totally..??

Haven't read the other answers so apologies in advance but TBTH, I think it's a damn cheek asking to have something knocked off because you have to start a course of jabs. If it was a legal requirement for them to have been done earlier then yes, I can see your point but as it isn't, I'm afraid it should have been one of your questions before you arranged to have it on trial even, let alone buy it. Then you would have known if you had to budget for that; it should not have come as a surprise to you it hadn't been done at that late stage if you had done your homework properly.
For what it's worth, I think the breeders were very lax at not having it done from a foal just in case even if they are homoeopathic types.

i thought it was illegal to sell a horse without a passport now?
i'm sure you can still get them issued though. check with your vet. have you had the horse vetted? i'd always advise it, even if it is just the most basic "eyes, heart, wind and limbs" vetting.
i'd just check how much a new passport will cost (£20 ish i guess) and knock that off the price, personally.
if you are definitely keeping him, please please get a vet out a.s.a.p. (i.e. today or tomorrow!) to give the horse an anti-tetanus shot. all the rest can wait, he's unlikely to keel over with 'flu for example, but the anti-tet is vital, and if the previous owners have been lackadaisical and "natural", they might not have done it. it lives in the soil, in high concentrations in some areas, and can get into the bloodstream through a tiny scratch.
it is a really really horrible way for them to go, too. someone on here mentioned a colt who was dying of it a few weeks ago, because the previous owners hadn't had him vaccinated. it's a very cheap vacc, too.
best of luck!

have the vet booked in for wed for a general vetting so will have that done at same time to save on more call out fees

i havent actually bought this horse was going to hand over cash yest till i saw they hadnt brought any documents

After reading your post above I think you need to step right back and THINK about what you are doing!

You've had it two weeks on trial. You were going to hand over the payment on Saturday and then get the horse vetted this week? What if the horse has a problem? You'd have bought it.

If he's never been jabbed, has he been wormed and if not what do the livery owners think about that?

Anyone can forget to bring a passport with them particularly if they're novice sellers so I would give them the benefit of the doubt but insist it appears before you pay for him. If it doesn't appear then they are breaking the law, it must be sold with one, no ifs or buts, so I think you'd need to get on to Trading Standards or Defra for that if they prove they couldn't care less.
It is also illegal for the horse to have 2 passports so until you know for definite, you shouldn't apply for one yourself. Stress to them how important it is to you. If they do admit they haven't got one then you are perfectly entitled to deduct the cost of getting a passport from the original price IMO. You need to take in the cost of the vet to sketch it (while there he could also do 1st jab!) as well as the price of the passport. You will also need full breeding details plus the original covering certificate from them for the breeding to be acknowledged in the passport, otherwise it will go down as breeding unknown even if you do know it; that covering certificate is key!
Good luck, we need pic's of course!

He was wormed on the day he came to me and stabled for 48 hrs i thought he was upto date with jabs i did ask at viewing they did say everythings ok..! its only now they are saying hes had no jabs

As everyone has said the passport is the main worry. Most youngsters I have bought/worked with have not had jabs. I just see it as a bonus if they have! Considering the cost of buying a horse the price of jabs shouldn't break the bank. I would never consider asking for the money off, but if you don't ask...

If they deliberately misled you then that is naughty and nasty and in that case, I would be talking with my purse too! Are they far away from you, could they not bring it to you or you collect it before Wednesday as the vet should see it at the time of vetting to be correct.

Firstly no don't ask for money off to start a course of injections, a lot of people who keep horses in herds only innoculate them to comply with either yard or competition regulations. And I don't really understand why you would have an unbroken horse on trial, I think the sellers have been trusting enough to let you pay when you got the passport and have him on trial for two weeks, so don't take the proverbial by asking for discount because he has had no jabs.

yes they are a good 6 hours away! this is why payment was arranged for the weekend to get passport the vetting is just for me im overly happy with the horse its the case of being mislead anyhow im going to contact them and ask to send passport on and i will pay them etc and get contact details of breeders
