Hi-viz and horses

I want some strips for his noseband and reins that are Velcro and soft... Haven't found any yet.

I wear (takes deep breath):

Either Tabbard, hi-viz hoody or hi-viz bomber jacket (depending on weather)

Polite hat band and hi viz crocheted (thanks mum) hat cover

Leg band that flashes

Carry schooling stick with hiviz on the end

Horse wears:

Leg wraps x4
Neck strap
and if cold/wet hi viz quarter sheet.

I wear a reflective tabard whilst out hacking, and that's all I've ever used, but also have some reflective strips somewhere to go onto the bridle..haven't used them for quite a while though!

Forgot to add that I don't ride in the dark though, as the roads round here have a lot of blind corners so wouldn't feel safe at all hacking in the evening, even if me and my horse were reflective from head to toe!

makes no difference weather you ride in the dark or broad day-light most of the drivers today cant see you on a straight road never mind a corner.

Hi viz hat band, over shirt with please pass wide and slow on it, hi viz boots on horse's back legs. If v cold/wet, hi viz rain sheet. Schooling whip with hi viz tape round the end. Sometimes wear a hi viz jacket if cold, rather than overshirt. Have also used a high viz neck band on horse and hi viz gloves as well! And still the ignorant b*****s roar past near enough to kick their side mirrors! In the countryside too!

I usually just wear a tabard, although I do have some leg bands and a neck strap that go on occasionally. We ride mostly on quiet lanes though and I would never go on the road in the dark.

Very true, was hacking the other day, had the sun right in my eyes, but could see bright yellow on the road up ahead, couldn't see the horse but rider's hi-viz jacket really showed up!

I looked for one... Didn't like it! Under the Hi Viz there is rather nice showing tack... So I know he looks smart once we whip off the hiviz- sad but true :)

dont matter what the tack looks like under there if your brown bread ;)

however do you often ride in the dark?

what was the bridle you looked at and didnt like? & why didnt you like it?

Hi vis fleece gilet. Hi vis rug if its really dull. Otherwise thats it. I won't ride out if its too dark/foggy, and my fleece hi vis washes so well it may as well be brand new its that bright. Have a red light in my pocket if it suddenly gets dark (ie raincloud comes in!).

In the countryside I recon its worse, most muppets think its a personal race track, but it do put a stop to them when a deer or a cow is sat on the bonnet/windscreen...

I wear a tabard no matter what the weather/time of day and I've got a hi-viz exercise sheet, breastplate & leg wraps.

Driving up the lane yhe other day at around 5pm (dark by now) I was startled to see a dark bay being ridden by a **** in dark clothing accompanied by a **** walking alongside in dark clothing. I was driving slowly because I'm used to the prats around here doing this all the time, but dread to think what would happen with a driver unfamiliar with the (busy) lane.
If people don't care about themselves, fine, but they obviously don't give a **** about their horses either. Makes me MAD.

hi viz tabard, breast plate and leg wraps even in the day. if really dull day i'll add exercise sheet.. more items to be added soon

might i add this is all in pink , really want a orange set as meant to be good for bright and dull days.. as with the winter sun i want to stand out as much as possible.. but you still get the idiots that wanna rush past

Just a tabbard. I never ride in the dark though.

I would like an orange hi viz saddle cloth that is a reasonable price. Possibly an orange hat silk as well.

I wear a hi viz gilet, and a hi viz hat band which has flashing LEDs that I can switch on if the light is poor.

What I would like is a long riding coat like the police wear, that covers the saddle and my legs and over the horse's bum too.

Also would like more hi-viz gear to be available in orange - it seem to be mainly yellow and pink (ugh).

I wear a hi viz jacket (the yellow equisafety one is insanely bright), or a tabard in summer, with a matching hat band. My mare wears a hi viz quarter sheet (mesh in summer, waterproof one in winter), a neck band & 4 hi viz boots.

This was for a daylight (bright low winter sun) hack. I had a pink hi viz tabbard and gloves on the horse with the yellow quarter sheet and the rider of the pony had a yellow hi viz tabbard on. I've just bought some lights for night riding but I want hiviz trousers and jacket for me, and a neck/bridle and flashing tail thing thing for the horse before we go out in the dark.

In winter I have a pink equisafety jacket, think it is visible from outer space but ridiculously warm or if it is pouring with rain a tabard over my riding mac. In summer a tabard.

Horse has yellow exercise sheet but it is fleece lined and quite warm so am looking for something really light for the summer. I think there are some mesh type ones but not seen them in the flesh.

general question,

What kind of hi-viz do you use when hacking out ect ?

What else would you use if it was available ?

Lee

Have started to use the polite notice stuff recently, but would no more ride out without my flourescent, than drive a car without a seat belt.

Common sense really, and plain stupidity to not.

I have a breast plate, leg bands, hat band and exercise sheet all from Aldi and all reduced in the sale (pick an Aldi in the middle of a large city or town and you get loads of stuff left over!!).

The one in the pic above is mesh. Horse is naturally a hot person, and isn't clipped in winter, so I had to search a fair while to find a mesh/unlined sheet.

And yes, an orange sheet would be excellent :) Orange stuff for the rider is reasonably easy to come by, but orange stuff for the horse is not. (Pink, yes - but really, I would spray paint me and and the horse orange sooner than kitting either of us out in pink :D).

High vis exercise sheet unless its really hot and ear bonnet on the pony.
