Hi-viz and horses

I do sometimes get caught out in the dark. I have solar powered flashing armbands, hi viz armbands, hat band, tail guard, neck strap, rein thingies, horse leg wraps & sometimes a hi viz bodywarmer. Some bits of my hack can be really really dark, so I also have a head torch, but this probably does no more than blind the horse - useful if a tesco van is hurtling towards you tho:D . I've seen a fabby thing called a "parson's rump" which is for all us hairy horse owners - too fluffy a butt to cover with a hi viz exercise sheet - it's a hi viz reflective thingy that clips onto the saddle - there's a website & I think they sell it on ebay too - very clever - will prolly buy one after xmas !

parsons rump is what you need ! och ! had to edit this - I was responding to somebody earlier in this post & thought you could interject on their post bit. WRONG ! (and now I look like a wally . . . . . ) sorry. . .

I wear hi viz when out and so does the horsey. My hi viz colours are also mix and match, just because they were all bought separately, and I've ended up preferring it that way now.

But, can I just be really presumptuous and beg everyone to make sure they are not only wearing the fluro colours, but to please make sure that they are also wearing something reflective.

I was driving down a country lane yesterday just as the light was starting to get dusky and, fair play, the girl on the horse was wearing hi viz. But with no reflectors sewn to her tabbard and nothing on the horse, the fluro yellow that was meant to protect her meant she melted into the autumn colours of the hedgerows.

*Slinks out of lecture-giving corner :)*

When I ride out I wear a fluro pink tabbard with reflective strips all over (as i get too hot with a massive thick jacket).

My horse gets a reflective pink breastplate, with matching reflective leg wraps and a quarter sheet. When it is too hot (like now...37 degrees Celcius) he gets a reflective fluro pink tail wrap with flashing red lights on it.

Best money ever spent :)

High vis exercise sheet unless its really hot and ear bonnet on the pony.

I vary what I wear depending on the weather but he always has some thing on.

Wow I love the photos! And we think we have had rain!

Looking at the first photo I will definitely be adding Hi Viz to the bridle, as the head end looks very dark, when I start hacking out next year. Along with the legs, tail, chest, back and me. Thank You.

I am stunned at your ingenuity. (I am serious, I am!)

Just bought two!

Going off topic (sorry), but another handy tip: attach baler twine to the ring of the headcollar, and leadrope to the twine, so if you do tie up and they happen to get loose, they don't have a trailing rope. A carabiner clip is handy for clipping through the reins, so they don't slip over the head.

This is what I wear whenever I hack out, rain or shine, summer or winter. Only difference in winter is that I wear a flourecent yellow bomber jacket and he wears a waterproof fleecelined exercise sheet.
