Hi Viz. Drivers what colour grabs your notice most?

What colour is most effective for hi-viz in your opinion?

It depends what colours are around it! :p

I bought my pink tabbard because I used to ride past a huge oil seed rape field and my yellow hi-viz lost it's stand-out-ishness against the background of yellow. I could have got an orange tabbard, but my mare is orange. ;)

I think that a mixture of hi-viz colours is the best. :)
 
Any thing other than green (i) cos you blend in with the grass and (ii) it just isnt as bright.

I use pink or orange as altho yellow is very visible it is also VERY attractive to certain insects and that's the last thing I need on a ride.

Importantly it also has to have reflective bands for cases where the weather gets very overcast and drivers lights can pick you out, and also in case you fall off into a ditch and the rescuers need to be able to spot you in the darkening skies some hours later (cheery arent I? :-)))
 
I said Yellow...

however, wasn't it pedantic that pointed out amazingly that in shadows (bright sunlight) you tend to blend in a bit TOO well...

I'm starting to night-ride from this weekend as we lose an hour in evening and I bought led strip lights from HOYS which I hope will alert more drivers.

Have a strip on hatband, horses noseband and tailguard.

Tottaly dependent on a range of factors.

Colour of horse, for example yellow doesn't stand out on a grey as much as on a bay. Orange/pink would
Surroudings for example yellow doesn't stand out in rape seed.
And time of day/weather for example pink might stand out better in bright sunshine.

I have a complete yellow set and a complete pink set so I can wear the most suitable at any given time. I don't use green because I don't think it stand out that much and orange would blend in to my horse and wouldn't stand out much either.

Good idea.............

The best is most definitely the POLITE tabards. I think those stand out as a driver...
 
i always thought the yellow was the most stand-out colour, but actually i watched 2 riders about a mile away last year and the orange was far more visible.
however, i have a POLITE tabard in yellow and really appreciate the effect it has on drivers...
 
I think it depends on the horse, weather, surroundings etc. for example I wouldn't wear yellow where there are fields of oilseed rape.

I have a tabard that's yellow on the top and orange on the bottom, yellow leg bands, pink hat band and orange ear covers :cool:

I love that idea, but the area (m2) of hi-viz matters too, which is why I love my yellow mesh quarter sheet - big and bright.

I'd love one with two retro-refective strips each side (orange and pink) rather than single silver reflective strips.
 
I would say yellow. Although I had my tabard and hat band on today. Was riding around 4pm and a car driver stopped me to say she couldn't see me! It's very concerning.

I rode out at the same time today and I put my pink stuff on. Another horse rider was coming the other direction in yellow and I couldn't see her until late. I only knew she was there because my horse pricked her ears as she could hear hooves coming towards her. She did however say she could see my pink from far away.
I generally wear yellow so was glad I put my pink stuff on.

The colours I quoted are all classed and called Hi Viz, hi viz is a term not a colour, they are all very bright.I think it depends on the person's eyesight as some people don't see certain colours too well, no matter how bright they are.

I remember being told that a company I used to work for had done some research on the most visible fluorescent clothing in foggy conditions and it was yellow. I take the points about yellow against a yellow background though.

The reflective strips you get on most hi-vis seems to be to be great for low-light conditions.
 
Yellow can get lost in sunshine as well as green and yellow backgrounds. Railway workers wear orange as it is more visible. Personally I think pink is the most visible - hate pink!!!!
 
I have a mixture of hi-viz.
Normally as a minimum i have hi-viz tabbard, horse has 'necklace' and leg wraps, all of which are pink and have reflectives on them.
When its wet or alot colder then i have a hi-viz yellow wrap around sheet for the horse.
Better to be seen and safe.
