Hi Viz gear - how many of us actually wear it?

Sweeties, love or hate?

I always wear high vis all year round. I went out on the road on Sat morning early and had my highh vis tabbard on, high vis boots on hinds and a high vis strap round his front leg (boot) and a newmarket rug (yellow in it!)

Oh and my new flashing whip from Robinsons! I LOVE IT!

I don't wear hi viz when I'm hacking my own at home but that's because it's all off road and on forestry tracks. At work the boss makes us wear hi viz tabards that say 'Young Horse' as I ride mainly 3 and 4 year old who are a bit sharp and he wants to cover his ass in case we land on top of a car

He can avoid being sued then as the drivers are warned that they're young horses who may do something and not to come too close and to give way. I must say they do work though, drivers do seem to be more considerate when I wear one, especially if one of the horses starts messing.

I always wear a tabard when hacking, even if I'm not going on the roads - someone I know fell off in our woods once and was only found because she had a tabard on. If it's overcast I'll put all the other gear on (leg bands on horse and myself, noseband, rein strips, neck band). I can't understand people who think they're visible just because it's a sunny day!

I have given Hi-Viz away to peope and they still won't wear it!

I feel sorry for the horses and the riders relatives and friends but there is no more that I can do. Some people are so vain...... and just will not ear it.

Bright low sunshine is a real problem as drivers are completly blinded. I would estimate that 60% of the horse related accidents I know of have occurred when there has been low bright sunshine. My advice is just don't ride out when the sun is bright and low as they just can't see us horse riders.

Yes, in all weathers without fail. My job is dealing with the aftermath of cyclists/riders/pedestrians etc who just don't get seen, even on bright sunny days. It's fair to say I'm passionate to the point of being a real anorak over hi vis gear although I don't go out looking ridiculous just well visible.

Always. regardless of day/weather/time of year.

there was a Petition on No 10 earlier this year asking for it to be made compulsary for horse riders/horse drivers/ motor bikers/ push bike riders. It got 9 votes.

I always wear hi-viz, in the summer just a waistcoat type thing and in the winter my hi-viz builders jacket. So many people don't wear it and it makes them so hard to see in the shadows. I agree it should be compulsory

Always
On roads, or on moors (so when im chucked off mountain rescue can see my body)
We live in the peak district and have loads of tourist traffic so always wear it, and we have low flying chinooks etc at times

At times it seems like too much of a faff and I'll be half way out the yard, then feel really guilty( if we get hit, and the horse is injured Id like to think ive done everything in my power to avoid it) and turn back and get som hi vis

always wear vest, and my hat cover is bright pink

and horse wears exercise sheet if I think its going to be dusk when we get back

i wear a vest with flashing lights on usually all the time. pony wears a bright pink ex sheet & breast plate. other items i have but don't always use are hat band, leg bands and arm/eg bands for me.

however when its really hot in summer which isnt often !! i don't wear it which is naughty of me and i will in future.

I teach R&RS at PC and insist that all candidates for tests provide their own tabard and leg bands.

I failed 2 people this summer for hacking to the rally (where they would be taking the test) with their Hi Viz stuff in rucksacks on their backs. Even worse, one was on a loan pony belonging to a friend of mine, so I told friend, loaner no longer has the pony!
