Hello, i am a 2nd year degree student at Warwickshire College, studying BSc Equine Performance Coaching. For one of my modules i am carrying out research into the effects on visibility when wearing hi-viz clothing whilst hacking. Also the effect hi-viz has on drivers passing horse and rider whilst on the road. I would really appreciate it if you could spare a couple of minutes filling out my simple questionnaire. Please follow the link below.

Many thanks.

I use a multiple of hi viz items on my horse, and colours of hi viz, yet your questionnaire was too closed to allow the option of multiple colours or items.

I also not only wear a tabard, but a hat band and sometimes a leg strap of my own too depending on what I'm up to.

I also have a hi viz jacket, tabard, and a flashing vest which I wear at alternate times.

Done, but could have been more in inquisitive, hi viz gives drivers more time to react, being more visible, you could possibly ask about why we use his viz, I know how many near misses I have had, driving and riding and we don't ride without hi viz, human or horse, different coloured hi viz are more effective in different lights, just something for you to think about

I found a big difference in the speed and amount of space motorists give if you wear something with full sleeves instead of a vest. I don't think it was a visibility thing, more that they took the warning more seriously if I was wearing a full item of clothing and had not just put a vest over ordinary clothes.

Done but as others I wear a variety of colours and items. For instance I always wear a pink hatband but the vest can be orange or yellow depending on the light - I know yellow doesn't show up as well in bright light so tend to wear the orange one on those days.

done. i think theocats is a good idea ,also try commercial drivers site (lorries buses and vans ) maybe b4 putting up on their sites show your questionair on here for comments and ammendments.

In my locality, it's the cyclists who come too fast, too close from behind - hence why I now have a very long fluorescent schooling whip held in a manner that keeps them further away from us.

Hi thanks for your comment, for the purpose of this research only a basic understanding on riders views was needed, with the idea of further work being carried out. There are a lot of variables to consider when researching rider visibility, so this research is looking into just one aspect. Thanks for pointing that out though, and completing the questionnaire.

Thanks for your comment, this will be taken into consideration.

THANKS to everyone who has completed this questionnaire so far, all comments made this thread have been made note of and will be taken into consideration when carrying out research. Once the research is complete the results will be posted on this forum.

Once again thank you.

I've filled it in. I do wonder if responses may be slightly skewed as I suspect the people most likely to fill in the survey are those who wear high viz.
