i met a group of riders today on road with no hi viz on 1 of them was around same age as my daughter (5-8) and it got me thinking hi viz allows you to be seen 3-4 second early on bend and more on a straight. it allows low flying helacopters /planes to spot you and gain some higher ground.

Ok its not cool look i my self think i look like a big yellow xmas tree but i dont go up yard with mack up and immaculate clothes! i hate hi viz but if my life and my horses life depend on it i WILL wear it.

steel cap boots aint attractive nor is hard hats at construction sites but you wear them to save your life, why not wear hi viz????? dont change your mind a wear hi viz because you read a sad story of someone who hasnt, because next time it could be you writting your sad story!

sorry rant over!

I hate it when I see people without high viz on. I've had one of mine hit whilst out hacking. I hate it when people don't have the common decency to say thankyou to cars too! If I slow down for some one and they don't say thankyou i feel like getting out and giving them an earfull! Even just a nod would be better than nothing!

I did stop and have words with some riders once for totally ignoring the fact that myself and several other cars had slowed down without any acknowledgement.

Fine if they are struggling with a spooky horse you can understand it - although you could still nod your head. But these were slopping along with long reins, chatting away and ignoring everyone else.

Hi viz should be made compulsory by insurance companies etc. We never ride out without ours on both ourselves and the horses.

With you all on the hi-viz and riders who don't say thank you.

We ALWAYS hack out with at least a hi-iz tabard and leg wraps all round. In wiinter we also have hi-viz quarter sheets. Our horses are all well over 16 hh and it is quite funny as a fair few people have said they slowed down because they thought we were the police! Mind you it would be nice if they slowed down because we were on horses.
