has anyone heard of a horse with hiccups before? He's just gone barefoot on his hind legs and seems tender on his feet and when he is startled he panicks and starts hiccuping. Other than that he's in good form, good colour in his gums and eyes, no temperature, eating his feeds, just a bit dogey on his feet and hiccuping for about 5 mins then it goes away. Any ideas?

I once had a guinea pig that would do this when it was stressed.

Sorry, that's no help at all!! But I wonder if it's just an anxiety thing.

Vet, I guess? I would get his heart listened to, just in case.

My dartmoor randomly hiccups. No rhyme nor reason to what sets it off. Its quite funny to watch! Lol!

That makes me sound cruel now but it is lol!

Hi I believe this can be caused by salt deficiency? One of my liveries horses recently started hiccuping a lot and her trainer told her to add some electrolytes to his feed and hey presto the hiccuping has stopped! Worth a try but maybe just try good old cheap and cheerful table salt first in case that works and you will save lots of money!

Very common in foals. My filly would feed and then have a session hiccups on a regular basis. She grew out of it.

Ted, the feral shire horse youngster, has an impressive burp after feeding - horse like owner !
