Wandering off topic slightly but can anyone explain what using a snaffle combined with a bitless bridle is supposed to do. It looked horrendous to me but Finbar looked a tricky ride so must be some reason for it all

He's a very big strong horse who likes to go around with his head in your face - the bitless works on getting his head down and works on breaks - My thoughts would be he's got a soft mouth if they use the snaffle and a bitless...

If I had a horse with talent enough to do hickstead, i'd be more than happy to pass the ride on to a professional rather than come home with millions of faults!

also, did you see the shanks on magna carta's (sp) bit? Ouuuch.

I asked on the live text commentary what the going was like and they said it was good!

Asked why they were going so slowly and they said they were concentrating on going clear!

.... that's working for them so far then!
