I need to do a presentation for English at school and I wanted to do something horsy, and I thought the Hichstead Derby would be something I could make interesting for people who aren't that horsy. On the BBC coverage every year they always have the statistics about how few clears there have been in however many years etc but I can't find these written down anywhere. Does anyone know any interesting random statistics or information about it? I'm planning to also go into a bit of detail about some of the horses and riders, e.g. Stroller and the Whitaker 'dynasty'.

Thanks.

Yes Eddie Macken and Boomerang 4 times in a row
Seamus Hayes and Goodbye won the first Derby
Marion Coakes twice with Stroller who must have been the smallest winner
Peter Charles three times in a row with Corrada.
Think Nelson Pessoa was the oldest rider to win and Michael Whitaker the youngest and Michael won 3 times in a row on Monsanta
John Ledingham twice in a row on Kilbaha
Paul Schockemohle and Deister twice
Wasn't it Tutein (Annette Lewis) that jumped straight off top of the bank
