Hickstead Horse Feeds. Does Anyone Use Them?

have never used them, and not sure i know anyone who does. but that doesn't really mean anything i guess.
they are owned by BOCM who make a lot of farm feeds (largely cattle and sheep) so they do know what they are doing, but the rest of the business has been more important to them and makes up more tonnage so they've never bothered promoting the hickstead range as hard as some of the equine specialists have promoted their ranges.

a lady at the yard uses them and loves it.
i have to say i used their cond cubes once, and swear i saw a noticible negative difference, compared to my normal spillers cond cubes.
so i dont know! my old mare used to have their paddock mix and it was always good quality, smelt nice etc

Thanks for that both of you!

I first met them last year when we had the stallion and mares here; they were what were fed and they all seemed to do very well on and liked them too (always a bonus!) As you say, they look clean and smell good too. The yearling cubes are great for weight gain and the mares did foals well othe stud mix. Their Alfa oil chaff was great stuff, seemed far better than the Dengie, sadly they don't do that anymore because they couldn't always guarantee the quality.
However, we can't get them around here, our nearest depot is Ruthin (near 40 miles) and the smallest amount they will deliver is a ton but because I have more mares in foal this year (3 to go, 1 already foaled but away until April) I've decided to give them a go instead of Baileys this time. The fact that their prices are quite reasonable has quite a large part to play I must admit, more than £2.50 off a bag of stud mix, £2 of cubes alone and when you think each mare will be using at least 2 bags a week that's quite a lot!
I've always liked and used Baileys' products for years so I feel a bit of a traitor to them but needs must sometimes; it will be interesting to see the results; you never know I might be back in the Bailey camp next year - or not as the case may be!
