Hickstead NC team

I'd guess 6ish. The 2nd half of the Nations Cup is due to start at 4pm and there should be 32 rounds jumped in that. Big ring so allow 3 mins per horse. Jump-off is a possibility - 1 rider from each team involved. Also allow plenty of time to get from the arena, out to the coach stop which is on the other side of the road. Quickest way unless anytyhing's changed recently is to leave via the stable field. Have a good time.

Thanks for the help! That was around my estimate too, so I'll add in a bit of padding and I'm set. If anyone ever wants Spruce advice, I'm in.

Thanks - maybe one day. It's a venue I've long wante to visit. Never heard anything but good about it except for the unpredictability of the weather - sometimes having all the seasons during the sourse of a show!

When you are finished, go out through the old gateway behind the covered grandstand, they don't let cars out that way but pedestrians are fine. The stable field would be quite a detour to get to the bus stop. You might want to ask the bus driver on the way there where the stop is for the way home, so that you are clear where you are aiming for.

The bars and trade stands will still be open at the end of the day, so if you have a wait for the bus you can always do a little retail therapy.

Oh right - last time I was there the gate was padlocked. OK if you don't mind climbing over it I suppose. I just prefer walking up the hill within the grounds instead of along the road!

Well I've never heard of any of the German team or their horses, so they must be nearly a fifth string outfit. The French team was not far off full strength. The Brits? I think they could have put out a "lesser" team and still done the same, but would have allowed some of the other guys to get some super experience. However, Mr Ricketts, isn't it important to use home advantage and get a win? Vangelis, ordinary..........those murkas horses are not worth the money paid, Omelli injured.................Ben Maher has at least shown form this season. But here's a little teaser for you............................How much success has the Irish boy had with Rolette since his owners bought her?????? Why the sudden drop in form of the mare. I wonder what the problem is (or was!) with Rolette, nothing higher than an 8th in international competition since she was sold, in fact 8th, 10th, 28th, 31st, 32nd, in international in 2009. I can't imagine what the difference is! Hmmmmmmmm!

Who was it that said they thought the team for Hickstead was "spot-on"??? .... ahem.... is all I can say

Sadly I think that was me. Wrong again.

Question is who is going to get us out of the mire in Dublin?

Partly because horses aren't machines and they take time to adjust to new circumstances. It is a rare, rare GP horse, even from a top producer, that makes that sort of relocation and immediately regains, let alone improves its form. Hats off to anyone who comes out at that level on a strange horse and has it jumping around - I suspect you'd see the same sort of effect on most of the horses that jumped at the Olympics.

Sorry, I'm not arguing with Ben's ability - or anyone else's - I just think it's a bit harsh to automatically assume the sale is some sort of disaster. Besides, horses loose form all the time, for all sorts of reasons.

As to why people sell . . . as above, different reasons for different situations. I'm interested though, how many of the people who feel so strongly that owners should keep a horse in its country, regardless, have paid into a syndicate to make that happen? It's easy to tell other people what they should do with their money.

I have to say if you've not heard of any of the German team you do not spend much time looking at results or taking advantage of the live video streaming from European shows!

we need a miracle to save us in Dublin. as for teh german team, Janke was second to meredith in the Mercedes Masters class at GCT Hamburg this year, andreaas was part of the team that won this contest last year and has several nations cup caps and Max Kuhner was placed several times in recent German international shows.

Sorry, maybe I was overstating the point in order to emphasise it. I have of course heard of one or two of the German team, but they are not first, second or third stringers IMHO, and yet they made it look fairly easy. Bummer about Bost in the jump of though.

i may be wrong but i think they do sponser him, sandra cordiner owns the horse or certainly did when he was ridden by andrew hamilton but olga white owns most of peters horses

I remember a piece Olga White did about having her horses with Peter and if I remember the gist of it was that it wasn't financially viable to have them but she felt a certain responsibility to Peter and his livelihood so removing them wasn't an option. I think it may have been a letter to H & H.

Very relevant given the thread discussions.

wot do u mean murka horses aint worth the money.
firstly dosent sound like any of ur buisness 2 be sayin that
and 2 dosent sound like u no wot u r talkin about

if u watched the nations cup you would of seen the ground was horrendous all the horses did there best in mud ! a lesser team would have been ? i think a stronger team in preperation 4 the super league in dublin fared and didnt they go well.
as 4 this murka horses arnt worth money paid think i disagree considerin the results this year .
