Does anyone know the state of the ground/car parks etc? Supposed to be going tomorrow (Friday) but after watching 4 x 4s having to be towed out of New Forest Showground yesterday, I am very nervous about taking my diddly little ordinary car. NF Show was feasible by public transport but trying to get to Hickstead on public transport? I think not.

I see from SJFan's post that they couldn't even jump in the International Arena and the weather's got wetter since then and their website is no help.

Grateful for any info, thanks

Its off the main A23 so you drive into the ground off the main road no fields etc, and they are quite good normally about the ground parking and riding.

They are trying to preserve the ground for the weekend. I live near by and the weather has not been too bad. I think they are saving the ground for the main competitions. I have friends that ave gone today and said so far so good

hope this helps your decision. Im going on sunday rain or shine

Thanks for the info. I've been umpteen times before so I know the set-up but the fact that the parking is on "grass" is what worries me. The NF Show is like that and by yesterday (only the second day) there were huge areas that were totally unusable and the horse lines were two feet deep in mud in places.

I'd phone them but they are bound to say it's ok as they want people to come.

What to do? Decisions, decisions . . . .

I'm going tomorrow too. I've decided to take my 4x4 rather than the car even though it's more of a hassle and costs more.. I asked this question earlier in the week and someone gave a link to another site where someone had posted that the car park was underwater on Tuesday! The post was in the New Lounge, it was called "Hickstead".

I just don't want to get there and wait for ages to be towed in and out when I have a 4x4 sat at home.

That's exactly my reasoning except that I don't have the luxury of a choice of vehicle! I saw the post about the car parks being underwater on Tuesday and the weather hasn't exactly improved . . . . I'll decide over night, I think. I wish the websites for these events would post an up-to-date situationx at, perhaps, the end of each day.

I'll tow you out if you like!

A friend is there today - will ask her tonight when she gets back about the car parking.

Hickstead is doable by public transport, just. You can train it, then get a taxi. Nearest station is Burgess Hill

Funnily enough, which is what a mate and I might do on Sunday is park in the little village just south of the showground (we go the cross country route to avoid traffic & it's quicker). There's some side roads, and little laybys, which I noticed people had parked in for the Derby meeting as saw them walking back.

Just a thought

I might hold you to that but what worries me is - who's going to tow YOU out? LOL. At NF Show yesterday the 4 x 4s were having to be towed IN and OUT by tractor - 4 wheel drive's OK but you end up with all four wheels spinning!!!

Teapot - that's exactly the sort of info I was after. Not being a local, I don't know all the little hidey-holes like I do round here!!! I'd rather walk a bit than be axle deep in mud . . . .

Let me do some googling and see if I can find out the name of the place and maybe a map too. I know where it is, and can picture it exactly - could tell you where to go etc, but a map might be more useful.

Plus it saves you £6 on parking too!

Do you go up the A23 and turn off?

Sounds like you go the way we go.

Place is called Sayers Common I think, quite small, some houses and a pub. Not masses of room, but people I saw were definately getting into a car with a load of tradestand name bags etc LOL

think yourselves lucky guys, i was really looking forward to it but lost £6000 today through no fault of mine, been crying all day, now cant afford to even think about going on saturday. enjoy

Here you go. Red circle is the Friday-ad/horsemart roundabout. The green arrow points to a lay-by type thing, looks pretty long, and I'm guessing people park there when they go to the church too (which is in the piccie)

thanks forester - hesitant as most people on here are really really nice and i love the forum (am totally hooked) but some are very very "you shouldnt have / told you so" and at the moment i couldnt bear anything like that. feel like giving everything up and disappearing. ps its a crooked a*sehole thing vs scrupulous insurance thing whereby innocents like us dont ever win. just being given another whisky x

Went Wednesday and today worked on the Horsemart stand may have seen some of you and not even known! Ground is getting gradually worse, obviously car parks are worst affected, they arnt letting many people drive in because the ground is so dodgy at the moment
